Thompson Rivers University, is located on the traditional lands of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (Kamloops campus) and the T’exelc (Williams Lake campus) within Secwépemc’ulucw, the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc. Our region also extends into the territories of the St’át’imc, Nlaka’pamux, Nuxalk, Tŝilhqot’in, Dakelh, and Syilx peoples.
Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is committed to developing programming in wildfire studies, a growing socioeconomic problem on the minds of Canadians from coast to coast to coast. Thompson Rivers University is uniquely poised to meet the challenge posed by the increasing threat of wildfire. TRU has established a centre for wildfire research, education and innovation (TRU Wildfire) through partnership with British Columbia Wildfire Services (BCWS) and the Government of British Columbia (https://www.tru.ca/wildfire.html). Through continued partnership with BCWS we aim to further develop our programming in wildfire studies.
The Department of Natural Resource Sciences (NRS) (https://www.tru.ca/science/programs/nrs.html) invites applications for a tenure track position in the broad area of wildfire science. The Department is seeking to hire a motivated candidate for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant/associate professor. Responsibilities include: 1) contributing to the teaching and mission of the NRS Department at the undergraduate and graduate level; 2) developing and teaching courses focused on wildfire science; 3) assist in the development and initiation of additional programming in wildfire science; 4) participate in Departmental, Faculty and University committees; and 5) develop a robust research program.
ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
We are seeking an exceptional candidate with experience and graduate education in wildfire science or a closely related discipline. The ideal candidate will have a PhD with a focus on wildfire science.
The candidate must have: 1) the ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate level; 2) a graduate degree in an area of wildfire science or related discipline; 3) the ability to communicate effectively with students, Indigenous groups, professionals, and the general public.
Preferred qualifications include: experience teaching courses in wildfire science; training in resource management including experience interacting with natural resource agencies and diverse stakeholders.
Preference will also be given to applicants whose expertise complements that of other faculty in the Department
