Position Description
The McGill University Department of Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) are inviting applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical). This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The MUHC is a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal in the Province of Quebec. The MUHC is also a bilingual academic health network, and one of the largest and most modern in North America; we are known for our multiculturalism: our psychiatrists represent more than a dozen different nationalities, we host trainees from all over the world, and our patient population reflects the multiple ethnicities of Montreal’s downtown core. Diversity of all kinds is highly valued.
The Department of Psychiatry has clinical activities in three main locations (i.e., MGH, Glen, and AMI) which are easily accessible by public transportation. Our mission is to support patients and their loved ones to move from mental illness to health through cutting-edge integrated care, supported by research and academic training for the next generation.
We are proud to host a respectful, multi-disciplinary, and inclusive work setting. Results of a 2022 survey of personnel in the department highlighted a collective pride in the excellence of our clinical work, a high degree of satisfaction with teamwork, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a workplace climate that promotes resilience and well-being.
Job Duties
The successful candidate will have a broad range of clinical skills in General Adult Psychiatry, with an interest in ambulatory care and aptitudes for leadership. Their academic track record should demonstrate experience in education and/or an active research dossier.
The successful candidate will be appointed to ambulatory services primarily, with the possibility of shifts in emergency psychiatry and crisis service. Ideally, the candidate would take on the project of starting a ketamine infusion service in the outpatient department.
In addition to general outpatient follow-up of patients with mood/anxiety and psychotic disorders, emergency and crisis work, the successful candidate will be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, and supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). The incumbent will be expected to participate in hospital administrative activities and also expected to make innovative contributions to the academic mission of the Department of Psychiatry.
McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.
