DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Molecular Genetics in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto (St. George campus) invites applications for a full-time, tenure stream faculty position in Molecular Biology and Genetics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2025.
Candidates are expected to have earned a PhD degree and have a minimum of one-year postdoctoral research experience in the broad area of Molecular Biology, Genetics, and related fields, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates who will develop an outstanding, innovative, and independent research program using molecular biology, genetics, and/or genomics to address fundamental biological questions. We are particularly interested in applicants who use eukaryotic, bacterial or viral model systems. The successful candidate will synergize with existing research strengths in the Department of Molecular Genetics and the Terrence Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research (Donnelly Centre) in model organism genetics, human genetics, cellular and molecular structure and function, molecular microbiology, computational and systems biology, and functional genomics and proteomics.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, as well as strong endorsements from referees.
The successful candidate will undertake undergraduate and graduate teaching responsibilities on the University’s St. George campus. Candidates can provide evidence of excellence in teaching with a teaching dossier that includes a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application, as well as strong endorsements by referees. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.
The successful candidate will be appointed as a faculty member in the Department of Molecular Genetics in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, and a cross-appointment will be sought in the Terrence Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant intellectual community of world-class scholars at Canada’s leading university. State-of-the-art research space will be provided at the Donnelly Centre. The Department of Molecular Genetics holds a leadership position in Canada and internationally as a premier venue for biomedical and life sciences research and education. The Donnelly Centre is an interdisciplinary research institute at the University of Toronto with the mandate to create a research environment that encourages integration of functional genomics, computer science, engineering and biology, and that spans leading areas of biomedical research (http://www.thedonnellycentre.utoronto.ca).
The University of Toronto has one of the most concentrated biomedical research communities in the world, including academic hospitals/research institutes that are fully affiliated with the University. The Greater Toronto Area offers cultural and demographic diversity and one of the highest standards of living in the world. Applicants are encouraged to review the research and teaching profiles of current faculty members. Please visit our home page: http://www.moleculargenetics.utoronto.ca.
Qualified candidates are invited to apply online by clicking the link below. Applicants must submit a cover letter; a current curriculum vitae; a research statement outlining current and future research interests; and a teaching dossier including a teaching statement, sample course materials, teaching evaluations, or evidence of superior performance in other teaching-related activities as listed above.
Applicants must provide the name and contact information of three references. The University of Toronto’s recruiting tool will automatically solicit and collect letters of reference from each referee the day after an application is submitted. Applicants remain responsible for ensuring that referees submit recent letters (on letterhead, dated and signed) by the closing date. More details on the automatic reference letter collection, including timelines, are available in the candidate FAQ.
Submission guidelines can be found at http://uoft.me/how-to-apply. Your CV and cover letter should be uploaded into the dedicated fields. Please combine additional application materials into one or two files in PDF/MS Word format. If you have any questions about this position, please contact Dianne Wells at mogen.chair@utoronto.ca.
All application materials, including recent reference letters, must be received by December 19, 2024.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
