POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Music at Mount Allison University invites applications for a full-time nine-month sessional appointment in Music Theory. This is a limited term sabbatical replacement appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, beginning August 1, 2025, subject to budgetary approval.
Preference will be given to candidates holding a doctorate in Music Theory. Evidence of excellence in research and a track record of successful teaching at the university level are a priority for the committee.
We are eager to support equity, diversity, and inclusion in this process, and we both welcome and strongly encourage applications from candidates from equity-deserving groups (as defined in the final paragraph). Equity-deserving candidates are encouraged to self-identify. We also encourage applicants to summarize how they would contribute to the diversity of viewpoints, expertise, and forms of excellence in our department.
The expected teaching load will be five courses over the academic year: four courses from the first- and second-year Music Theory core, plus one upper-year elective. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will be encouraged to continue their scholarly or creative work and to undertake departmental service including outreach, recruitment, and committee work. Courses will be taught on the campus of Mount Allison University.
Application materials should include a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and teaching philosophy statement. Three letters of reference should be sent directly by the referees. Applications should be sent to the address below. Electronic submissions are preferred.
Applicants are asked to clearly indicate their citizenship/residency status in their cover letter or CV. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.
