Description:

PROFILE

  • You have a PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, immunology or a related field.
  • Expertise in genomics, medical- or spatial molecular image analysis and international experience is highly advantageous.
  • You have an interest in developing disease 3D models that facilitate the integration of multiple modalities, including histopathology, multiomics, and molecular imaging.
  • Knowledge of brain (tissue) histology and anatomy.
  • You are an early/mid-level career independent researcher with several years of working experience in an academic environment.
  • You have excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with neurobiologists and pathologists are essential attributes for this role as the neuropathology laboratory is uniquely positioned within the neuroscience research institute branching out to multiple disciplinary research lines in the fields of aging and chronic inflammation.
  • You have affinity with teaching and mentoring bio(medical) students and organization sensitivity.
  • You should either hold University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) registration (Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs in Dutch) or be willing to obtain it.

Responsibilities:

We aim at positioning Amsterdam UMC as a leading neuropathology research center in the Netherlands and Europe and consider your expertise and ambitions indispensable to this goal. We seek candidates with skills in molecular and cellular biology, multiomics, imaging and neurobiology, with a strong focus on neurodegenerative diseases. Expertise in Alzheimer disease and/or other neurological disorders including Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis will be prioritized.
To achieve our vision, we seek an ambitious PI to help shape the future of our neuropathology group and conduct cutting edge neuropathology-related research. You will closely collaborate with and be mentored by experienced neuropathologists and scientists affiliated with the Amsterdam Neuroscience research institute, a joint venture of Amsterdam UMC and the science faculties of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam and the Dutch Brain Bank.
