ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION - The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California (Cal Poly) is excited to invite applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2025.
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in innovative undergraduate teaching, a broad base of knowledge and teaching interests, and the ability to integrate that knowledge across environmental systems. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to project-based and hands-on learning using innovative pedagogical methods. In addition, the candidate is expected to embrace the teacher-scholar model and engage in research collaborations with undergraduates and master’s students.
Preferred teaching areas include air quality & climate, fate & transport, toxicity & risk assessment, environmental modeling, environmental engineering of energy systems.
Scholarship areas of interest include pollutant fate and transport, prevention/management of air quality pollutants, environmental risk assessment, integrated environmental/multimedia systems, and climate impacts and adaptation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (a) teaching a broad array of fundamental classes and laboratories in environmental engineering as well as upper division and graduate courses in area(s) of specialization; (b) engaging in activities related to service in the form of student club advising, curriculum development, and shared governance; (c) supervising undergraduate and graduate (master’s)-level research; (d) developing and maintaining externally-funded research programs; (e) collaborating with other faculty on curricular, research and professional development interests.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected. Qualified candidates with industry experience are encouraged to apply. Anticipated hiring range: $106,000 - $118,000 per year.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Environmental Engineering or a closely-related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required for appointment. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered but must provide proof that the doctorate was awarded prior to or by the start of the appointment.
Candidates must have a strong commitment to innovation in undergraduate teaching with a focus on hands-on learning. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required. Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required.
The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The ideal candidate will show evidence of attention to and/or the potential to contribute on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion across their teaching, scholarship, and service.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to those who can show evidence of working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.
Experience in environmental engineering, supported by a record of scholarly publications, is preferred. Research that emphasizes hands-on opportunities for both undergraduate and master’s students is prioritized. Professional registration and industry/consulting experience are desirable. Preference will be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities to the role.
