POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Visual and Material Culture Studies Program (VCMS) at Mount Allison University (Sackville, NB) is hiring for a full-time nine-month sessional appointment to cover a sabbatical leave in the academic year 2025-2026 (subject to budgetary approval).
The successful applicant will likely be scheduled to teach the following courses: VMCS 1201 Introduction to Visual Culture (two sections); VMCS/SPAN 1821 Spain: A Mosaic of Cultures (taught in English but cross-listed with Hispanic Studies); VMCS 2111 Maps and Empire; and VMCS 2401 Intercultural Communication. The delivery of those courses will be online and in person.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong teaching and research profiles who will actively contribute to campus life and support upper-year students enrolled in our program. As this is a full-time appointment, it is expected that the successful applicant will also take part in our VMCS collegial activities, such as meetings and ad-hoc committee work. Candidates should possess a PhD or be near completion. The successful applicant will be appointed at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor from August 1st, 2025 to April 30, 2026.

Please send a letter of interest detailing relevant expertise in visual and material culture studies, a curriculum vitae, sample course outlines for VMCS 1201 and VMCS/SPAN 1821, as well as the names and contact information of two references (who will not be contacted until a short-list of candidates has been determined) to Dr. Christina Ionescu (cionescu@mta.ca) by February 20, 2025.
