POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Project Manager (Construction) will be responsible for supporting the pre-construction phase of various projects by ensuring the accuracy of all drawings produced by the Design department. This includes facilitating the effective distribution of these drawings to various departments within the company, such as estimating, pre-construction, supply chain, trades, and the construction team, as well as to city officials and other stakeholders. This role would also be responsible for collaborating with stakeholders, managing Design project timelines, and ensuring compliance with building regulations. It involves detailed planning, coordination of resources, and effective communication among team members.

YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in the construction industry.
  • Architectural background would be considered an asset.
  • Quick learner with the ability to adapt to changing work environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Detail oriented and analytical.
  • Awareness of building complexities, building and safety codes, the range of relevant products and materials, ergonomics, LEED, Bill 124 and applicable industry standards and regulations.
  • Ability to develop creative but functional solutions to solve client challenges.
  • Effective client service skills with ability to manage client expectations or redirect to supervisor as needed.
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial construction
  • Software proficiencies in AutoCAD, Sketch-up; Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) is an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of design, construction, as well as knowledge of various furniture systems, interiors, materials, and finishes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation, documentation and report writing skills.

EDUCATION:

  • College Diploma or Bachelors Degree in a relevant field would be considered an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Check design drawings to ensure alignment with client specs on the projects, budget, time and client specifications.
  • Stay updated with construction and building techniques and make sure they are being applied in our projects.
  • Validate designs and ensure alignment with brand standards.
  • Validate that drawings have a clear scope of work for the estimating team to create their budget.
  • Use software such as Sketch-up, Adobe Creative Suite and Revit to produce accurate and detailed technical drawings.
  • Collaborate with architects and designers to develop technical solutions to design challenges.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and quality checks of design drawings to ensure compliance with architectural specifications, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Identify and correct any discrepancies, errors, or omissions in design drawings.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of relevant codes, standards, and best practices in architecture and commercial construction.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Site Managers to ensure designs are practical and buildable.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members to address technical questions and provide solutions.
  • Participate in project meetings, offering technical insights and recommendations.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Liaise with the Design team and construction Project Managers & Site Managers
  • Ensure drawings comply with all regulatory, environmental, ADA, AODA and health and safety requirements.
  • Incorporate sustainable practices, where practical, into project delivery, in accordance with company processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction documents, MEP’s and permit applications.
  • Maintain and monitor material library and contracts (furniture/fixtures and equipment).
  • Other duties as assigned
