We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our team in Kitchener!

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides overall contract administration and technical expertise for a small construction project or area of larger construction project. Accountable for safety, budget, quality, schedule, and profitability performance within scope of responsibility. Oversees project personnel operations and maintains excellent stakeholder relationships.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in related field such as Construction Management or Engineering
  • 3+ years of Assistant Project Management experience in the construction industry
  • 5-8 years of progressive construction experience
  • Previous experience with a local General Contractor
  • Working knowledge of contract administration
  • Estimating or related experience would be an asset

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of construction techniques & sequences
  • Experience with project management and/or scheduling software (Procore)
  • Proven ability to handle a fast-paced work environment and enjoy working collaboratively and cross-functionally
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly and be flexible in meeting competing deadlines
  • Ability to work with people at all levels internally and externally
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization and follow-up skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, personable and friendly
  • Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail
  • Able to work at a fast pace with conflicting deadlines and changing priorities

Responsibilities:

Project Initiation & Planning

  • Leads to secure new work by participating in estimates, working with trade contractors, and / or participating in proposals and presentations
  • Participates in estimates and works with subcontractors to secure new work
  • Assist with the administration of the Prime Contract and the Subcontracts

Project Execution and Control

  • Develops or oversees the Construction Management Plan with the superintendent
  • Ensures the project is constructed as per design, budget, quality, safety and schedule
  • Liaises with clients to ensure projects are constructed as per quality, safety, and contract
  • Develops and implements quality management plan and Quality Control
  • Review shop drawings, specifications and samples to ensure that are compliant with contract documentation
  • Assist with the coordination and flow of the design documentation
  • Ensure all project related documentation and correspondence is channelled via Procore
  • Ensure appropriate site records are fully maintained by all site staff
  • Manages all change orders, including to negotiate, process, and assess cost and schedule impact
  • Arrange and minute all meetings
  • Prepares and tracks progress claims and estimates on more complex scopes
  • Observe and comply with the Project Administration Manual (PAM)
  • Assists project manager and superintendent and has some responsibility for managing overall project performance on more complex projects or scopes as per site HSE, cost management, schedule, quality, and status and progress reporting
  • Escalate issues to senior site management as appropriate

Project Closeout

  • Participates in overall project closeout, including document archival, maintenance and warranty manuals, deficiencies, and warranty work
  • Oversees commissioning plan development, closeout plan, and their execution
  • Oversees pre-commissioning or commissioning and closeout
  • Oversees and/or executes overall project closeout, including document archival, maintenance and warranty manuals, deficiencies, and warranty work

General

  • Stays current with industry practices; seeks new, innovative construction methods and initiative
  • Understands labour relations and market implications
  • Ensures all owner, client, and project policies, procedures, and standards are followed
  • Mentors Project Coordinators and Sr. Project Coordinators

Safety

  • Supporting H&S team in ensuring that safety documentation is as per Ministry of Labour and Multiplex requirements
  • Creates and influences safety culture as a mentor and model. Prepared to participate in safety committee and influences corporate safety policy and procedures
  • Conducts job site tours and safety inspections and leads by example to ensure that policies, procedures, environmental programs and safety standards are followed

Procurement & Finance

  • Assist with the subcontractor procurement process
  • Assist with monthly reporting regimes, including cash flows, reports, cost accruals, risk and opportunities
  • Sets up project reporting procedures (e.g. labour, material, cost reports, site office procedures, and document control)
