Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or related field and 2 years of experience. The two years of experience can include: two-year student internship; two calendar years working in a science or engineering field (not specifically 4160 hours); or, two calendar years working at a hands-on job that requires a technical understanding, which may include, but is not limited to such things as a lab technician, auto repair, construction (home) or any job where math science or hands on understand of “how things work” is required and must be applicable to architecture, engineering, construction management or related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of construction standards, principles and practices.
Knowledge of building systems and equipment.
Knowledge of architecture and engineering principles and practices.
Knowledge of project delivery methods.
Ability to understand and work within University policies and procedures.
Ability to gather, organize, summarize, and analyze detail information.
Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
Ability to communicate and foster strong working relationships.
Ability to assess, negotiate and problem resolution skills.
Ability to understand and interpret construction documents.
Ability to manage multiple project tasks concurrently.
Ability to work in a personal computer environment - MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and MS Project.
Description of Position
An entry-level project management position - The Assistant Project Manager is an integral member of a project team that is responsible for managing a portfolio of building and infrastructure projects system wide. The project team is responsible to manage scope, schedule and budget to preserve, maintain and improve the University’s Capital Assets to help fulfill its academic mission.
Responsibilities
This position will work directly with CPM design and delivery project managers and assist with the management, performance and completion of moderate to complex renovation, new construction and utility infrastructure projects. The Assistant Project Manager, under supervision, will assist project managers through all phases of a Capital Improvement Project; these phases include: Pre-design/Capital Budgeting; Design; Construction; and, Operational Turn-over/Occupancy.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Project scoping and assessment; Project Budgeting; Estimating; Procurement of design, construction and related services; Project team leadership; Contract management; Project scheduling; Contract billings; and, Change management.
Perform other duties as required.
Position reports to the Director of Project Delivery.
Work Environment
Primarily an office environment but will include frequent visits to construction sites.
