Assistant Psychologist- Complex Trauma Pathway- Burton-on-Trent Integrated Mental Health Team
Midlands Partnership University Foundation Trust (MPFT) has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologists to support the Complex Trauma Pathway within the Integrated Mental Health Team (IMHT) and Talking Therapies based at the Integrated Mental Health Team based at Horninglow Clinic in Burton-on-Trent. The Complex Trauma Pathway is at the interface between primary (Talking Therapies) and secondary (IMHT) care for services users who have experienced complex traumatic life experiences, and for some where a joint service intervention is required. The IMHTs are multidisciplinary teams following a recovery model that is informed by both psychological formulation and patient-led goals.
We are looking for enthusiastic, diligent and experienced Assistant Psychologist to work within the complex trauma pathway until the 31 st March 2025. This is a high clinical contact role and would be suitable for a candidate who has at least one year’s experience of working with people with complex and severe mental health problems. As this post is at the interface between two services it would be well suited to a candidate with experience of providing psychologically informed assessment and interventions in the community with individuals that have complex mental health needs. Having experience of risk assessment and the ability to work dynamically is also desirable.
Providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions, individual and group based, under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.
Working independently according to a plan agreed with the Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or CBT trained professional and within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.
To work collaboratively with all pathway colleagues.
To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
To assist in the facilitation, administration and evaluation of workshops.

This post involves working closely with a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to address the psychological needs of this particular service user group through a range of 1:1 and group interventions, including a Grounding Emotions Programme, which aims to teach service users techniques to manage trauma symptoms. The post also involves supporting with evaluating the impact of the pathway.
The role is varied and provides opportunity to build upon clinical skills and develop multidisciplinary team working skills; therefore good time keeping skills and being able to manage multiple, competing demands are essential to the role. This post would provide an ideal basis for individuals wishing to pursue Doctoral training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology. The successful candidate will be well supported with supervision by Registered Psychologists in the IMHT and Psychological Therapists within Talking Therapies, as well as by the multi-disciplinary team.
