Description:

We are looking for an Assistant Psychologist to carry out, under supervision and with guidance, neuropsychological testing with HIV+ individuals and possibly some with long-Covid. In addition the post will involve interviewing and assessing patients with a variety of long-term conditions at the hospital sites of Imperial College Healthcare NHS. The neuropsychology testing will be based at St Mary’s Hospital, W2 although some work may be at the other hospital sites (Charing Cross or Hammersmith Hospitals). The patients will be seen mainly in these hospital outpatient settings, face to face, although some remote working may be possible.
We are looking for someone with a real interest in physical health and Clinical Health Psychology and someone who enjoys working with numbers, questionnaires and data. All this requires precision, but also a gentle and friendly approach with patients and staff. Intelligence and a sense of humour are obligatory.

The postholder will be a member of the Department of Clinical Health Psychology, based at St Mary’s. They will have the opportunity to interact with psychologists working with different physical health conditions, to take part in the Department meetings and to benefit from CPD opportunities offered by CNWL NHS Foundation Trust.

  • To carry out, and report on, with guidance and supervision, neuropsychological assessments of individuals who are HIV+ or have other diseases.
  • To assist practitioner psychologists in a pilot project to evaluate the psychological aspects of different long-term conditions in the patients of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, especially patients with respiratory illness. (St Mary’s Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital)
  • To carry out relevant literature searches and provide a summary of relevant findings
  • To prepare materials for quantitative and qualitative measures relevant to the objectives of the research
  • To interview patients in outpatient departments and help them complete questionnaires relating to their condition and their psychological response to their condition.
  • To keep ongoing records of the progress of the project and to provide a report summarising the findings and its implications.
  • To work following guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, while closely supervised and regularly seeking help from clinical/professional supervisors or managers.

Clinical Health Psychology works with patients of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) to facilitate the delivery of optimal physical health outcomes, which includes the psychological aspects of experiencing illness.
All psychologists in the Clinical Health Psychology department are employed by Central North West London NHS Foundation Trust and have Approved Associate status with ICHT.

Responsibilities:

  • To arrange appointments for patients in collaboration with other members of the department.
  • To offer the neuropsychological tests in a precise and considerate way
  • To write up the results of the testing using clear English and following the format requested
  • To gather data from patients of ICHT on the psychological aspects of their physical conditions
  • To work with the senior psychologists to choose the appropriate measures for the investigation, to present the questionnaires to patients, to analyse the data and to set it in the context of existing knowledge.
