Description:

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist for a new fixed term post which is funded by a grant received from the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust to develop Motivational Interviewing informed Package of Care (MI-PC) for patients presenting to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with severe alcohol misuse.
This fixed term post will involve working with the Alcohol Care Team (ACT) and people with lived experience of alcohol issues to develop a motivational interviewing based psychological intervention suitable for patients in acute hospitals. The primary objective of this post is to develop and support testing this intervention in this patient group. The post holder will join a psychologically minded and highly supportive team who are keen to develop the intervention which may later be used in a research context.
The project will run over 9 months to develop and test a manualised psychological intervention based on Motivational Interviewing. The proposed intervention will include a patient kept component to reinforce the intervention. The development process will include a literature review and identifying similar interventions, working in groups with ACT staff, hospital staff and Experts by Experience and gathering and analysing feedback from external stakeholders and patients who have had the intervention.
The post holder will work according to a plan agreed with the Project Leads, and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. They will also assist in review of literature, audit of team data related to the project, analysis of statistics, publishing the research project, teaching and other project work within the service.
The Assistant Psychologist will work within the Alcohol Care Team (Liaison Psychiatry Service), with a blended approach of both remote and on hospital site working. The Alcohol Care Team consist of Consultant Addictions Psychiatrist, Psychiatric Addictions Nurses as well as Community Drug and Alcohol Service link workers. The aim for developing the proposed intervention is to enhance patient care and improve clinical outcomes.

Research and service evaluation
To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist the Project team to ensure the intervention is in line with evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
To lead on designing the initial drafts of the intervention and process of feedback from different stakeholders for further refinement to ensure implementation of the project.
To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes.
Clinical responsibilities
To support delivery of the intervention as part of a brief pilot of the proposed intervention, under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.
Under close supervision carry out data collection while working alongside the multidisciplinary team.
To collate and analyse feedback data to support ongoing development of the project.
To attend and contribute to appropriate clinical meetings.
To assist in the development of a psychologically minded Alcohol Care Team
