Description:

Overview:
Under the supervision of the Floor Manager, the Assistant Registrar maintains and updates resident and voter lists, processes voter registration forms, and performs general clerical duties related to the election process.

Responsibilities:

  • Responds to inquiries from the public, calling or coming into the office and advising them on completing the necessary Election forms.
  • Assists with conducting election operations, processing voter registration forms, and inputting data collected from annual listings (census).
  • Assists, as needed, in certifying nomination papers and initiative petition papers.
  • As requested, you must be willing to participate in the Annual Listing process, including fieldwork.
  • Assists as needed with absentee & early voting operations; assignments include processing and filing requests and ballots. Additional tasks involve the maintenance and preparation of accepted ballots for delivery and further processing, all while upholding the integrity and confidentiality of the vote-by-mail operation.
  • Will also assist, as needed, with the preparation of voting equipment and materials for use at the polling locations.
  • Will also assist, as needed, with the transportation, delivery, and set-up of Election Day equipment at polling locations.
  • Will perform other related tasks, as determined by the Head Assistant Registrar of Voters and the Board of Election Commissioners or their designees.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required. At least one (1) year of experience as a Temporary Registrar of Voters or related work, preferably in work that included team leadership experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with the City of Boston, Massachusetts, and Federal laws and regulations affecting voter registration, election administration, voting, and jury lists. Knowledge of City of Boston neighborhoods, wards, and precincts preferred.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with employees and the general public.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computer technology, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Familiarity with the State Voter Registration Information System (VRIS) is preferred.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts during the election and listing periods.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
