SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a temporary Assistant Staff Archaeologist for our San Antonio, TX office to assist on projects based in the Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas area.

What you will accomplish:
- Communicate with Field Directors, Project Managers, and GIS staff through regular, scheduled field status reports.
- Participate in technical research and writing and perform data QA/QC for reporting efforts.
- Assist with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of GPS data using handheld unit
Supervise and lead a small crew while conducting archaeological field work such archaeological monitoring, survey, testing, and data recovery. This includes:
- independently assigning and directing the activities of others on behalf of SWCA, often in remote areas without immediate guidance from senior managers, to ensure quality and on-time delivery
- ensuring that employees understand their responsibilities and delegated tasks and being held accountable if crew members under your supervision are not performing their activities correctly, productively, and safely
- serving as a conduit of communication between employees and senior managers, including communicating issues to relevant senior managers
- receiving and resolving complaints from employees in the field
- monitoring team productivity and offering timely performance guidance, including determining when corrective action is needed and delivering appropriate feedback.
Experience and qualifications for success:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year working as a field Archaeologist.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle background screening, and have access to reliable transportation.
- Able to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
Available for fieldwork on local projects and for fieldwork requiring extended travel (staying in a hotel for up to 2 weeks at a time).
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field, preferred.
- An accredited Field School, preferred.

An Assistant Staff Archaeologist in this San Antonio based position can expect an hourly rate of $21.00 - $27.00/hr. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
