Assistant Superintendent - Inclusive Services The Division: PWPSD provides comprehensive public education programs and services to approximately 6,100 Kindergarten to Grade Twelve students. Its educational enterprise is carried out in 32 schools in northwestern Alberta with an annual operating budget of approximately $85 million. Schools are located in the region’s towns, villages and within the City of Grande Prairie. PWPSD has the third largest rural transportation system in Alberta, covering 14,225 kilometers per day.
Our facilities department maintains over 75,000 sq. meters of buildings.The Region: The City of Grande Prairie is located 456 km northwest of Edmonton. The population of Grande Prairie is currently over 70,000, and the city is deemed to have one of the province’s highest growth rates. Grande Prairie offers a wide variety of sports, arts, culture, and well-equipped facilities for every interest.
The area’s economy is expected to continue to grow in this vibrant and exciting region known as the Peace Country.The Candidate: The Assistant Superintendent - Inclusive Services, working from the central administration office located in the City of Grande Prairie, is responsible to the Superintendent of Schools and the PWPSD Board of Trustees. This individual will be highly skilled in administration and have a proven track record as a successful teacher and leader within their division. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic and be committed to excellence and continuous improvement. This person will have leadership skills with an ability to ensure accountability of self and others.
An understanding of rural education and central office experience would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will have commitment to the ideals of public education as well as the mission, vision and guiding principles of the PWPSD.The ideal candidate: models and inspires ethical conduct characterized by integrity, respect, fairness, and honesty in interpersonal relationships, is committed to a research-driven professional practice and is able to work as part of a collaborative team, andaspires for excellence in all competencies of the Teaching and Leadership Quality Standards.Responsibilities: Assist in the design of effective policies and operational procedures for Inclusive Education, including specialized supports and services. Coordinate programs as outlined in approved policies, guidelines and procedures.Supervise Early Childhood Services (ECS) programs.Assign and supervise Education Assistants.Approve technology to assist students with inclusive needs in system schools.Identify and coordinate professional development opportunities for staff, including teachers and support personnel, in collaboration with administration, educators, and external agencies.Supervise and support Mental Health and Wellness programs within the division.Collaborate with the senior administration, school staff, central office staff, and other Boards and agencies.Provide central office administration with information preparing for the annual budget for Inclusive Education and ECS.Supervise the multidisciplinary team coordinated by Peace Collaborative Services.In accordance with the Program Evaluation Policy, evaluate, monitor, and prepare recommendations for administration and the Board regarding Inclusive Education programsCollaborate with School Liaison Officers in the process of Principal growth, supervision and evaluation.Carry out other such duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.Responsibilities may be adjusted to align with the strengths and expertise of the successful candidate.Qualifications: Hold a Masters degree and be eligible for membership in the College of Alberta School SuperintendentsCurrent Alberta Teachers CertificatePrevious Administration experience would be considered an assetPrevious Inclusive Education experience would be considered an assetLQS certification must be obtained, if not currently heldClass 5 license (this position provides services throughout the Division therefore travel is required)Please see PWPSD Policy CCA Exhibit 5 and 6 for more information with regard to the responsibilities of the successful candidate (located on our website http://www.pwpsd.ca ).PWPSD offers a competitive and comprehensive management compensation package.
