Education and Experience Required

  • Early Childhood Education Degree or Diploma
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory and/or designate experience an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of child care/ resource program experience
  • Registered member of the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Training in HIGH FIVE®, PHCD or HIGH FIVE® Sport is a definite asset
  • Well-developed skills in areas such as leadership, communication, organization, assessment, teamwork, confidentiality, commitment and accountability, initiative and creativity
  • Knowledge of best practices in the Early Learning development field
  • Knowledge of My Kids Computer program
  • Social and multicultural sensitivity
  • Strong and effective relationship builder
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrates the ability to network with community agencies and partners
  • Medical required – including TB 6 months current to hiring date

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Centre Supervisor the Assistant Supervisor is responsible for helping to maintain the standards set by the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and helping the Supervisor oversee the day-to-day program. The Assistant Supervisor is responsible for the day to day operation of the Child Care Centre, in the absence of the Centre Supervisor.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Assist the supervisor to lead and support the High/Scope® Educational Approach to Curriculum by incorporating How Does Learning Happen (HDLH), Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years for Infant, Toddler, Preschool and Kindergarten
  • Assist the supervisor to lead and Support a conflict resolution model developmentally appropriate for children: 6 Steps Conflict Resolution –Infants/Toddlers, Preschool/Kindergarten and High Five’s P.H.C.D. Conflict Resolution Model for Program Leaders for our school aged children
  • Assist the supervisor to lead and support The Early Learning For Every Child Today framework (ELECT) in combination with HDLH and the principles of High Five® and Principles of Healthy Child Development (P.H.C.D.)
  • In the absence of the RECE ensure a program plan is ready for implementation by casual educators
  • Ensure a child/family early learning environment that is respectful of children and families strengths and needs
  • Assist the supervisor monitor and supervise staff and coordinate weekly and monthly program planning.
  • Prepare staff schedule and call replacements staff as needed to maintain the right ratio of staff to children
  • Display knowledge and able to articulate ages and stages of child development to parents/ caregivers.
  • Plan for and facilitate family centred and professional development workshops. Evaluate the effectiveness of the programs.
  • Support families in understanding the importance of interacting with their children during the program.
  • Maintain good partnership with other community agencies and early learning programs.
  • Ensure that program delivery meets all provincial legislation, municipal and regional regulations and guidelines
  • Manage within the Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety standards
  • Perform other duties as required
