Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for participants in the swim team program. This position is also responsible for providing a quality experience to all members focused around the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 18 years of age; high school diploma or equivalent required; one year of swim coaching experience preferred.
  • Competitive swimming experience at the high school or collegiate level.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal).
  • Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING, OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED:

  • Assist the Head Coach in creating a thorough, age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, stroke development and drills.
  • Assist in leading structured practices.
  • Assist in the assessment of each swimmer and provide them with appropriate instruction and competitive event assignments.
  • Provide instruction, coaching and feedback to all swimmers during practices and meets.
  • Assist Head Coach with administrative matters relating to the team, swim meets and team performance as well as interactions with parents.
  • Assist in coordinating and executing swim team competitions and meet registrations.
  • Lead by example while adhering to YMCA policies, and being a role model both on and off the pool deck.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for swim team participants.
  • Attend all training and staff meetings.

CHILD PROTECTION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Participates in required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
