Job Title: Syndicate Assistant Accountant
Location: Dublin
WFH Policy: Flexible Hybrid / 2 days in office per week
Contract Type: 9-month Fixed Term Contract
Job Summary:
To support the Syndicate Controller & Syndicate Finance Team Lead in preparing financial reporting and maintaining the Books of Account for the syndicate ledgers.

This may include, amongst others, Beazley’s underwriting control standards, Beazley’s claims control standards, other Beazley standards and customer relationship management.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working group

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting

  • Bookkeeping, bank entries and monthly journals using Agresso (GL package).
  • Preparation of bank reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Preparation of key balance sheet reconciliations on a quarterly basis.
  • Preparation of key investment reconciliations on a quarterly basis.
  • Analytical review of period end insurance receivable and payable balances.
  • Day to day monitoring and matching of insurance receipts/payments.
  • Identifying and advising of corrective action where appropriate, to include posting journals using Agresso.
  • Assisting in preparation of trial balances and statutory accounts.
  • Ad hoc reporting including co-ordination and collection of information to prepare internal reports.
  • Liaise with Credit Control, Treasury Team, Banks, Underwriters and other Finance Teams as appropriate.
  • Support Syndicate Controller, Syndicate Finance Team Lead and Finance Manager with Ad Hoc requests and projects as necessary.

Finance projects and process improvements:

  • Strive to improve process documentation and efficiency between busy periods.
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects as they arise.

Personal Specification:

Education and Qualifications

  • Studying towards professional qualification (ACCA/ACA/CIMA or equivalent).
  • University degree in finance/business/accounting preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate/advanced Excel skills essential.
  • Intermediate skills working with MS Office software, such as Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proactive, self starter, seeks continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritise.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge of non-life insurance company accounting is preferred, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Lloyds market/syndicate accounting is preferred, but not essential.
