Description:
We are currently seeking a Molecular Biologist with demonstrated excellence in teaching and a commitment to scholarship. This posting is for a Tenure-Track Assistant Teaching Professor in the Bipartite stream (80% teaching, 20% service). Bipartite faculty members teach lecture, labs, and/or seminars totaling 8 course-equivalents/year. Most years, this means having 12-15 contact hours per week (e.g., 6-9 hours of lecture, 3-6 hours in lab) with our students each semester. Though not a requirement of the position, Bipartite faculty members do have the opportunity to supervise research students and conduct independent research. This candidate will contribute to the core themes of the Department, Faculty and University.
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will have relevant training in Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, and Bioinformatics with substantial teaching and/or research experience in these areas. Previous experience in course development and coordination will be viewed very favourably. Demonstrated excellence in oral, written, and interpersonal communication will also be viewed as very desirable characteristics of applicants.
SPECIALIZED REQUIREMENTS
- Ph.D. in the related discipline from a recognized University /Institution
- A minimum of three (3) years actively involved in teaching and other scholarly activities at the University level.
- Demonstrated scholarly activity - Publications/presentations/research and a combination of teaching /research and/or industry experience
- Demonstrated theoretical and professional knowledge of the discipline.
- Demonstrated competence with relevant course content.
- Sound knowledge and demonstrated application of best teaching practices.
- Advanced statistical methods desired.
Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be responsible for facilitating student learning by delivering courses that are part of the Biological Sciences and Chemical Biology majors but cater to students interested in pursuing environmental sciences, molecular genetics, and molecular biology fi elds. Candidates will:
1. Teach existing and develop new courses that span the areas of molecular genetics, techniques in molecular genetics, genomics and bioinformatics and gene regulation and epigenetic mechanisms.
2. Update and expand current laboratory courses focusing on molecular genetics, biochemical techniques, and applications in the fi eld and applied settings.
3. Contribute significantly to the Department’s strategic goals and ensure congruence amongst initiatives.
