Overview:
Pen Underwriting is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Underwriter to join our underwriting team!
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about the insurance industry and wants to contribute to the financial performance of our company.

As an Assistant Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in servicing our existing Transactional Team in their Residential and Commercial property owners accounts. You will work with experienced underwriters to evaluate new business and renewals,, make underwriting decisions, and ensure good outcomes and customer centricity.How you’ll make an impact:

  • Evaluate new business using sensible and recognized underwriting practices.
  • Review renewals in line with our underwriting approach and broker requirements
  • Use industry insight and good judgment to increase the financial performance of the company.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Handle new business and renewals, rating, and adjustment enquiries from clients.
  • Understand and handle claims cover requests, ensuring service standards are met.
  • Maintain a healthy renewal retention rate and new business conversion.
  • Contact brokers for new business and renewal negotiations, while seeking opportunities to sell our product range.
  • Liaise with the accounts team to handle any financial queries.
  • Identify and assess risks that are ‘standard,’ ’non-standard,’ ‘mid-net worth,’ and eligible for other lines of business within the company.

About you:

  • Educated to GCSE level, including passes in English and Mathematics.
  • CII qualification preferred, but not essential.
  • Proficient in using standard MS Office products, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of insurance principles and practices.
  • Ability to trade and negotiate with brokers.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels, including formal presentations.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team.
  • Eligible to work in the UK
