The position is for a Professional Liability Assistant Underwriter within the London Financial Lines team. The role will have both personal and collective responsibility for supporting the growth and profitability of the Professional Liability portfolio.

Job Responsibilities & Competence

  • Contribute to the underwriting of the renewal portfolio of business through proactive account review, analysis of underwriting trends and improvement plans to maintain profitability.
  • Provide assistance and technical underwriting support to the PI Underwriting team
  • Underwrite in line with The Hartford’s framework - e.g., Underwriting Authorities, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles.
  • Support development and execution of The Hartford’s Professional Indemnity underwriting and marketing strategies.
  • To produce and develop new business through London Market brokers and through brokers within the international market
  • Running and producing internal reports and figures using Pipeline, GURU 2.0 and the International Underwriting Dashboard
  • Performance monitoring of binders and line slips and analysing their progression.
  • Involvement in the creation and execution of building new broker relationships
  • Contribute to the identification and development of new products and new geographic territories for expansion of the PI book
  • To always ensure compliance with The Hartford’s best practice and Lloyd’s regulations.
  • To keep abreast of development of claims within the PI book and to liaise with the claims team as necessary to ensure appropriate settlement of claims.
  • To contribute, as required, to the quarterly and annual reporting of Underwriting results.

Qualifications & Capabilities

  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload and meeting deadlines and that of the team.
  • Ability to develop and sustain relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of general insurance and its underlying principles.
  • Knowledge of FCA rules and guidelines relating to commercial and/or private customers.
  • Willingness to continue to develop knowledge of Insurance and related issues through form and informal learning.

Experience

  • Relevant experience working in the London Insurance market, specifically within the Financial Lines area.
