DESCRIPTION

Summary:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs is a position that supports marginalized students, specifically increasing their sense of belonging within the University. This role is an integral member of the OMA team, providing a broad range of high touch, high impact resources aimed at retention, success, support, and programming for the multicultural community. This individual will assist in developing the OMA strategic plan and work with various University departments to create an inclusive environment that nurtures and promotes student learning and development. Under the direction of the Executive Director, provide leadership and guidance to OMA.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):

  • Master’s degree required
  • Three to five years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience working with diverse populations in program development, implementation, and assessment
  • Available to attend events during evenings and weekends and out of town travel
  • Valid driver’s license

Participates and maintains current knowledge via on-going professional development

  • Coordinates efforts with faculty, staff, and community organizations and encourage their involvement in multicultural programming efforts
  • Plans and conducts monthly engagements for assigned populations of students
  • Other duties as assigne

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for office operations in Executive Director’s absence.
  • Assists with leading and directing campus inclusion and multicultural engagements
  • Fosters community building within and across underrepresented communities and assists students with developing social support networks
  • Promotes partnerships throughout the campus community to enhance campus programming and diversity
  • Assists with facilitating the National Student Exchange Program as needed
  • Develops departmental multicultural programs as requested by Executive Director
  • Serves as an advocate and resource for multicultural student organizations
  • Assists with orientation, registration and graduation day activities as related to OMA
  • Creates and manages databases, spreadsheets, queries, and electronic communication that support the operations of the department
  • Contributes to communication planning and marketing materials content
  • Prepares, reviews, and submits reports as necessary
