DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto, invites applications for the position of Director of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry. The Division is one of seven divisions in the Department of Psychiatry and strives for excellence in research in mental disorders in late-life, and the education of health care practitioners who treat elderly patients. As service providers to a growing and relatively under-serviced patient population, this Division also acts as an advocate for these individuals in the area of health policy. The anticipated start date of this position is January 1, 2025.
Building upon its current strengths, the Department of Psychiatry is committed to advancing quality mental health care across the life span; training the next generation of health professionals; advocating effectively for mental health as a basic human right; and, advancing research in mental health and brain science.
The successful candidate for this position will be a recognised academic leader with a demonstrated record of excellence in research, clinical training and education, or creative professional activity. The Director will develop a strong inter-professional program of academic scholarship characterised by recruitment, retention and promotion of productive faculty members, external grant funding, peer-reviewed publications, scientific and community presentations, and outstanding training with the active participation of students, residents and fellows. They will also foster collaboration among the hospitals affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry.
Candidates should be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. This position is supported as a 1/2 day per week commitment for a 3 year term, renewable once for up 5 years. Applicants must be eligible for certification with their respective College, the College of Psychologists of Ontario, or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or health profession equivalent. For the successful candidate, compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
