Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
A Toronto-based family office, that manages the personal investment portfolios and philanthropic endeavors of two ultra-high net worth business partners (the “Principals”), is currently seeking an Associate, Accounting & Finance to join its team. The Family Office’s mandate is to optimize risk-adjusted returns through strategic portfolio asset allocation, comprehensive tax planning, and thoughtful estate management. Its investment portfolios span a diverse array of public and private market assets, including real estate, private equity, and other alternatives.
The Associate, Accounting & Finance, role will be responsible for investment tracking, accounting and financial reporting, tax compliance and planning, and day-to-day cash management activities. The ideal candidate is a proactive, ambitious individual eager to learn from seasoned entrepreneurs and excel in a dynamic, detail-oriented environment. The Principals have a track record of nurturing professionals into skilled executives and are looking for someone who can quickly earn their trust and who is committed to a long-term career in family office investments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Chartered Professional Accountant designation is required
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant/related accounting experience
- Demonstrated track record of academic and professional success, showcasing strong judgment, discretion, and work ethic.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to ask insightful questions and navigate complex challenges independently.
Responsibilities:
The Associate will report directly to and collaborate closely with the Principals and the Chief Investment Officer. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Investment Tracking and Reporting: Produce comprehensive monthly reports on all investments in the Principals’ portfolios, detailing returns, asset allocation versus targets, tax obligations, management fees, and other relevant metrics.
- Account Reconciliations and Financial Reporting: On a monthly basis, prepare reconciliations for bank and investment statements, track investment cost bases, manage all account activities and income/distributions, record journal entries, maintain an accurate trial balance, and generate financial reports for investment entities, including the Principals’ foundation and trusts.
- Cash Management: Forecast existing and future capital commitments, and handle day-to-day cash management activities, such as processing wires for capital calls. Assist the Chief Investment Officer with capital allocation decisions and participate in investment decision-making.
- Tax Planning and Efficiency: Review investment positions and holding company structures to identify opportunities for tax-efficient transactions and other tax planning activities, with guidance from the Principals and tax experts.
- Coordination with External Professionals: Work with external accountants and other professionals to ensure tax compliance, including managing periodic tax installments, year-end filings, and proactive tax planning.
- Foundation Administration: Oversee Foundation matters, including disbursing grants, issuing charitable donation receipts, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Relationship Management: Maintain strong relationships with investment custodians, service providers, and various Company executives and experts.
- Documentation and Record Keeping: Collect and organize monthly and quarterly capital account statements, NAV statements, notices, subscriptions, and redemptions from investment custodians. Administer holding company records and keeping minute books up to date.
- Ad-Hoc Projects: Undertake other projects and analyses as needed.
