POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Archivist for Digitization will work under the supervision of the Archivist to digitize and catalog the archival collections of the Missouri Historical Society. This position is responsible for digitization, metadata creation, and maintaining the Archives’ online collection.
SKILLS
- Demonstrated experience using current archival, library, and museum descriptive and metadata standards (EAD, METS, MODS, Dublin Core, RDA) and thesauri and dictionaries (LOC, Getty, Chenhall)
- Experience using ArchivesSpace preferred
- Knowledge of preservation, conservation, and arrangement standards for archival materials
- Proficient using collections management software and digital assets management systems
- Demonstrated experience managing digital projects
- Understanding of emerging technologies and issues facing digital assets management, including file migration and usability
- Ability to handle large, heavy, and fragile materials; ability to reach shelves; ability to traverse grate floor, operate elevators, and utilize stairs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with U.S. copyright law and using rights statements
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work rotating Saturdays and occasional after-hours events, required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree, preferably in Archives and Records Management, Library and Information Science, History, or a related field
- Minimum 1-2 years of archives experience, preferably in a nonprofit museum and/or public sector

Responsibilities:
- Determine digitization priorities with the Archivist, the Director of Library and Collections, and other relevant departments, as needed.
- Fulfill digitization requests from the public and other MHS staff members
- Scan documents to MHS standards
- Ingest digitized items to digital asset management system, Piction
- Catalog item records in collection management software, Mimsy XG
- Create collection finding aids in ArchivesSpace
- Publish catalog records and finding aids to the MHS website and update as necessary
- Maintain workflow documentation and cataloging standard manuals
- Supervise volunteers, interns, and temporary digitization staff members
- Assist patrons in-person in the Reading Room with reference requests 1-2 days per week
- Assist with grant writing to fund digital preservation projects
- Write occasional articles for History Happens Here blog and Gateway Journal
- Participate in MHS Speaker’s Bureau program, providing public presentations upon request
- Serve on exhibit teams and MHS committees as needed
- Other duties as assigned
