JOB SUMMARY:

Eastern Mennonite University, a NCAA Division III institution committed to academic and athletic excellence, seeks a highly organized, innovative, driven, and detail-oriented individual for the position of Associate Athletic Director for Operations. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the successful candidate will supervise and ensure the seamless operation and management of the department’s day-to-day operations and athletics facilities, supporting a positive, equitable, and safe environment for student-athletes, staff, faculty, and visitors. Situated within the Division of Student Affairs,, Intercollegiate Athletics at EMU strives, through the administration of 17 NCAA Division III intercollegiate varsity and club sports, to advance the University’s overall mission of preparing students to serve and lead in a global context. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Associate Athletic Director will supervise and ensure the seamless operation and management of the department’s day-to-day operations and athletics facilities, supporting a positive, equitable, and safe environment for student-athletes, staff, faculty, and visitors.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work weekend and evening hours in addition to regular scheduled hours.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and minimum of five years of professional experience in athletic event structure and operations, including at least two years of supervisory experience in event/gameday operations required. Advanced Degree in sports management, facility management, or a related field, familiarity with NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics and higher education policy issues, experience in strategic planning and revenue generation through facility rentals and/or knowledge of inventory control, applicable safety requirements, and building systems preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally travel to meetings and conferences off campus, which may include some overnight travel.

Responsibilities:

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Advise and consult with coaching staffs and the Director of Athletics to provide support in department functions, scheduling major events, and other logistical needs as related to the day to day operations of an NCAA Division III Athletics Department.
  • Oversee the maintenance and usage of all indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, serving as liaison to the Facilities staff. Ensure creation and execution of an annual schedule of maintenance activities, as well as an inventory of equipment (maintenance and replacement plan).
  • Coordinate comprehensive scheduling of athletic facilities for practices, competitions, and other events in collaboration with coaches and staff. Ensure efficient facility use, equitable access for all teams, and clear communication of scheduling changes.
  • Oversee the management of athletic contests, coordinating all logistics for game day and event operations to ensure successful execution and a positive experience for participants and fans. Manage the bidding, budget preparation and event delivery of ODAC and NCAA championship events.
  • Direct full-time, part-time, work study, contracted, and volunteer personnel, providing training and assignment for events.
  • Ensure up to date policies and procedures related to facilities, operations, and event management in alignment with campus safety initiatives and external revenue strategies through facility rentals.
  • Lead initiatives and special projects as directed by the Athletic Director, ensuring progress and alignment with departmental, divisional, and university goals.
  • Working with the Director of Athletics, ensure adherence to all NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations, policies, and procedures, particularly related to facilities and equipment.
  • Provide sport oversight for up to one sport per season as well as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach. Assist the Director of Athletics in oversight of the Athletics Communications Office as it relates to internal operations.
  • Provide departmental leadership in the absence of the Athletic Director and support the oversight of day-to-day facilitation of athletics priorities.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
