Description:
Main Duties and Responsibilities: Leadership Lead and develop the Business Intelligence Unit: Oversee the strategic development and daily management of the BI unit, including its core functions in analytics, data warehousing, clinical coding, and forecasting. Ensure that the team is equipped with the skills, tools, and capacity to deliver data-driven insights that directly support clinical and operational decision-making. Lead efforts to improve service delivery, ensuring that the highest standards of healthcare are achieved. Promote professionalism and compliance: Foster a culture of excellence within the BI unit by upholding best practices and adhering to external standards, including those set by regulatory bodies.
Ensure the unit meets industry benchmarks and continually adopts evolving standards in data management and clinical coding. Deputise for the Deputy CDIO: Serve as the acting Deputy CDIO when needed, taking responsibility for strategic initiatives, making high-level decisions, and providing leadership across the wider digital and intelligence functions. This may include leading on key projects, representing the CDIO/Deputy CDIO in executive meetings, and overseeing critical service areas during absences. Service Delivery Collaborate with senior leaders: Work closely with senior management to align business intelligence services with the Trust’s overall strategy and objectives.
This includes shaping performance cultures by delivering analytics that drive actionable insights for operational improvements, service delivery, and patient care. Oversee resource management and planning: Play a critical role in planning and managing directorate and functional resources, ensuring that the business intelligence function supports the execution of strategy effectively. This involves regular process reviews, ensuring that all functions are operating efficiently and contributing to the Trusts goals. Champion data quality: As the Trusts Data Quality Lead, ensure that all data-related processes adhere to high standards.
Develop strategies for improving data accuracy and reliability across the organization and ensure that data quality is integrated into service delivery from the ground up. Regularly assess and address gaps in data quality. Respond to regulatory requirements: Ensure that the business intelligence function delivers timely, accurate, and comprehensive responses to regulatory bodies. Lead the team in meeting all statutory reporting requirements and liaise with regulators to ensure compliance and transparency in data reporting.
Strategy Advise on national and regional health policy: Keep abreast of changes in health policy and strategy at both national and regional levels. Provide strategic advice to the Deputy CDIO on how these changes impact business intelligence, offering insights into opportunities for development and potential risks to be mitigated. Develop strategic direction for business intelligence: Shape the long-term vision of the BI function, setting ambitious goals that anticipate future changes in healthcare and technology. Lead the development of strategies that ensure the continuous improvement of analytical services, focusing on innovation, scalability, and adaptability.
Design information strategies and systems: Create and implement robust information management frameworks that support the Trusts clinical and operational needs. These should reflect best practices, technological advancements, and governmental quality standards, ensuring that the Trust remains a leader in health data management. Staff Management and Development Foster a high-performing team: Lead the Business Intelligence Unit by creating a motivating and supportive work environment. Ensure staff are well-trained, highly engaged, and focused on delivering data solutions that align with Trust values and customer service goals.
Encourage personal and professional growth through ongoing development opportunities and clear career pathways. Implement workforce and succession planning: Work with the CDIO and Deputy CDIO to establish workforce plans that prepare the BI unit for future challenges and growth. This includes talent management, succession planning, and skills development initiatives to build a resilient and capable team. Support recruitment and development: Lead recruitment efforts to attract top talent for the BI unit.
Ensure all team members have access to development programs, regular performance reviews, and opportunities to advance within the organization. Motivate and retain staff through a strong focus on engagement, recognition, and alignment with Trust values. Customer-Focused Service Delivery Cultivate a customer-centric service culture: Lead efforts to create a service delivery model that puts customer needs at the center. Work with stakeholders across the Trust to ensure that the BI unit delivers data solutions that exceed expectations.
Implement feedback loops and service review processes to ensure continuous improvement. Implement KPIs and benchmarking: Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of business intelligence services. Use internal and external benchmarking to assess performance, identify areas for improvement, and ensure that customer and staff satisfaction levels are maintained. Data Management Provide expert guidance on data management: Offer leadership and consultancy on complex data issues, especially those impacting patient care.
Lead the development and maintenance of a comprehensive data repository, ensuring that data systems support clinical decision-making and operational processes through advanced analytics and predictive modelling. Oversee clinical coding and data quality audits: Ensure that the Trusts clinical coding services are of the highest standard and that regular audits are conducted to assess data quality. Lead the implementation of recommendations from audit results to ensure continuous improvement in data accuracy and coding compliance. Business Reporting Deliver clear and concise reporting: Lead the preparation of business intelligence reports for the Trusts Board, senior executives, and managers.
Ensure that reports are timely, accurate, and aligned with the organizations needs. Key performance areas include RTT (Referral to Treatment), cancer care, finance, and workforce metrics. Enhance business reporting systems: Continuously improve the Trusts business reporting infrastructure, ensuring that reports meet the evolving needs of operational management. Implement forward-looking tools and methodologies to enable predictive analytics and scenario planning.
Project Management Lead information-related projects: Manage the successful delivery of business intelligence and information-related projects across the Trust. Ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and budget. Engage with stakeholders to ensure projects meet their needs and align with the Trusts strategic objectives. Maintain strong stakeholder relationships: Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders across the Trust, ensuring that the BI unit is viewed as a trusted partner.
Manage complex interdependencies between projects and ensure clear communication with all involved parties. General Responsibilities Contribute to Trust-wide strategy: Provide strategic input across the organization, ensuring that BI initiatives align with broader Trust goals. Play a key role in developing new approaches that leverage data to improve patient outcomes and organizational performance. Manage project success criteria: Ensure that all BI projects and services meet agreed-upon success criteria, including scope, quality, cost, and time.
Provide expert guidance on managing trade-offs and developing mitigation plans when necessary, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged throughout the project lifecycle
