Description:
KUBRA is looking for a Associate Council to join our Legal team. The purpose of the Legal Counsel is to provide support to KUBRA’s General Counsel through assisting with contract review, negotiating and drafting agreements, legal research and writing, providing strategic advice on privacy and compliance issues and assistance with M & A. The Legal Counsel will be required to work in partnership with various business stakeholders.
WHAT SKILLS DO YOU NEED?
- 1+ years of experience in a legal capacity is an asset
- Law Degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Privacy Certification is an asset (such as Certified Information Privacy Professional (Canada) Certificate).
Responsibilities:
- Provide analysis and guidance on legal and policy issues to include; proposed new products, protecting intellectual property including assisting with any patent applications, mergers & acquisitions, privacy and compliance issues, non-disclosure agreements, outsourcing agreements and business strategic planning
- Assess privacy and cybersecurity compliance programs in light of evolving regulatory environment and identify potential issues
- Work in co-operation with KUBRA’s General Counsel and the Office of the General Counsel at Hearst to ensure the interests of KUBRA and Hearst are protected
- Provide legal support on issues arising from actual or anticipated lawsuits and disputes
- Assist in drafting, negotiating, and administering complex vendor and client contracts
- Provide input into RFP responses
- Conduct and coordinate research into a variety of legal issues
- Write, review, and edit reports, opinions, correspondence, articles, and other documents
- Develop and recommend operating policy and procedural improvements
- Monitor relevant developments in the law, including legislative and regulatory amendments
- Create and maintain a workplace culture that is consistent with the overall organizations and that emphasizes KUBRA’s mission, vision, guiding principles, and values
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending training sessions and educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; benchmarking best practices
- Other duties as assigned
