Description:

Sheridan is currently seeking to fill the position of Associate Dean, Architecture, Urban Design, and Infrastructure. The Associate Dean is responsible for providing leadership to the faculty, staff and students in several specified programs within the Faculty. This includes leading the development, delivery and review of programs and supervision of teaching and learning processes within the faculty to ensure quality and relevancy of program outcomes. It also includes the planning and administration of resources and the development of industry partnerships and initiatives in collaboration with other departments within the Faculty and College.
The Associate Dean plays a key role in attracting and developing talent, creating an engaging work environment and managing performance to ensure faculty commitment to quality teaching, professional development and currency in their discipline. They contribute to building a strong identity, positive reputation and a clear sense of direction of programs through educational objectives that are current with industry and community, effective, relevant to student needs and consistent with the Faculty and College strategic direction.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Supporting and enabling the future vision, direction and evolution of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, and specifically how it will continue to differentiate and elevate itself as a leader in education in Canada as well as internationally.
  • Providing sound academic leadership and direction to the faculty and staff in the Faculty in order to ensure a strong team environment and culture that fosters equity, creativity, innovation, excellence, continuous improvement and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Fostering an effective and participative environment for faculty, staff and students in the teaching /learning process and is accountable for engaging all in the academic community.
  • Maintaining a high level of department performance through effective recruitment, selection, development, performance management and evaluation of fulltime and part time faculty and staff in their program cluster including improving the diversity of participation within the skilled trades.
  • Liaising with local, provincial, national and international levels to research and develop appropriate linkages or partnerships with the community, governments, educational institutions, business and industry and to ensure appropriate programs and services are delivered.
  • Strategically developing recommendations for enrolment targets and budget projections, and developing ngrowth of capacity for additional students in the skilled trades.
  • Contributing to the development of a strong identity and positive reputation by championing new program development, program renewal, partnerships, excellence in teaching and learning, and applied research within his/her program cluster that is consistent with, and supports, Sheridan’s vision and strategic directions.
  • Developing program budgets and enrolment plans in conjunction with the Dean, Operations Manager, and Faculty leadership team, and managing both to ensure the provision of appropriate facilities and resources.
  • Ensuring students receive academic supports that contribute to a positive learning experience while studying, supporting the mediation and resolution of conflicts, and enforcement of Sheridan’s policies.
  • Leading the Professional Advisory Committees on behalf of the Dean along with faculty to ensure currency of curriculum and currency of engagement with industry.
  • Implementing a flexible, responsive Faculty academic plan as part of the academic planning process of the college.
  • The Ideal candidate will have a passion for education along with:
  • A master’s degree or PhD in related field of study and a solid understanding of the municipal and private landscape of the industry (i.e. Civil Engineering, Architecture, etc)
  • A Professional Engineering designation (PEng) is strongly preferred.
  • Seven years of experience in a post-secondary educational environment and/or significant leadership experience in applied civil, architecture, or urban design (Equivalency will be considered)
  • Prior experience, Microcredentialling, graduate or post-graduate experience in business, finance, and operational planning are an asset for this position.
  • Demonstrated experience cultivating and contributing successful team environments by applying excellence in leadership, collaboration, team building, effective communication, exceptional interpersonal and management skills.

  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving, critical thinking and project management skills, and an ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously are essential.
