Description:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An earned doctorate from an accredited academic institution;
  • Graduate or terminal degree in one of the disciplines offered in the college;
  • Demonstrated record in university-level teaching;
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly, creative, and/or professional accomplishments;
  • At least three years of successful academic administrative experience at or above the level of a Department Chair or its equivalent;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and committees with a collaborative leadership style;
  • Demonstrated ability in student advisement and mentoring;
  • Highly organized with evidence of ability to prioritize workload demands, including meeting deadlines and managing several projects at one time;
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively and identify and solve organizational problems;
  • Demonstrated record of achievement in working with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and administrators;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership in responding to the diversity and international character of the University and the College;
  • Effective resource management skills (budget, personnel, facilities).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful experience with accreditation procedures and processes;
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, plan, and implement relevant and visionary programs and experiences for the College;
  • Experience with high-impact practices for student success and retention;
  • Demonstrated experience in academic administration or faculty governance;
  • Experience and ability to function in a collective bargaining environment;
  • Organizational management experience in an accredited institution of higher learning similar to CSUN. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership within a College that values justice, equity, diversity & inclusion, student-centered learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration;
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the College;
  • Experience leading organizational change in a dynamic and diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee development, recognition, and accountability to further operational goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists Dean with strategic planning and decision-making for the College, as well as assisting in the management of the College’s budgetary allocation.
  • Provides a coherent vision, management strategies, and leadership in coordinating the development of curriculum in the College of Health and Human Development. Assists departments within the College in developing curriculum proposals. When appropriate, suggests new programs or courses, or modifications of existing courses and programs. Keeps departments informed regarding all curricular policies, including calendars and deadlines. Supervises the final preparation of approved curriculum, and ensures its proper and timely university-wide circulation.
  • Represents the College in overseeing the movement of its curriculum through the Educational Policies Committee and the Graduate Studies Committee. Coordinates the activity of departmental and program representatives in appearing before these committees.
  • Works with Chairs on oversight of schedule build to meet instructional and college goals and requirements.
  • Keeps departments informed on the schedule for program reviews, and serves as a resource person in the preparation of the self-study. Assists departments in presenting their self-study to the Academic Council. Meets with the outside evaluators, takes part in the final discussions, and assists departments and programs in implementing the plans agreed upon and contained in the final memo of understanding.
  • Participates in monthly meetings with the College Chairs and Program Directors.
  • When requested, writes drafts of reports and other documents on behalf of the College, the Chairs and Dean.
  • Acts on petitions and requests for changes of program, in accordance with College and University policies, on behalf of majors from the College and from students in College courses. Advises and consults with Chairs, Program Directors, and faculty in making these decisions as appropriate.
  • Serves as the supervisor of the College Student Services/EOP Center and coordinates advising activities within the College in conjunction with Chairs, faculty, and College advisors. Is available to meet with students to advise them on courses and programs in Health and Human Development and provide information on career possibilities.
  • Meets with students concerning academic or disciplinary problems. Advises students on their rights and options when they encounter difficulties with Chairs, or faculty within the College. Consults within the College concerning academic or disciplinary student problems as appropriate.
  • Coordinates assessment programs in the College.
  • Works with the College’s Assessment Committee to review self-reports and the development of the College’s Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
  • When requested, represents the Dean of the College at meetings or functions both on and off campus.
  • Assists the Dean with College development activities.
  • Contributes to college celebratory occasions including commencement and award ceremonies.
  • Makes independent recommendations to the dean on all college matters.
  • As a leader, demonstrates a commitment to student success that is mission-aligned with the university’s vision, values and priorities.
