Reporting to the Dean of the School of Construction and Building Sciences, the Associate Dean is a senior leadership position that provides strategic direction and operational oversight for the school’s academic programs. This key leadership position also provides guidance and oversight to the school and its programs on scholarly activities, and external engagement. The Associate Dean fosters excellence in teaching, learning, scholarly activity and applied research, and nurtures a culture of innovation and collaboration within the school, the Institute, and with our external partners.

  • Objectives and directions of this position are set in consultation with the Dean and are critical to the success of the School of Construction and Building Sciences and NAIT.
  • This position exercises extensive judgment and decision making in promoting the school’s vision and strategic plan. The Associate Dean will manage the school’s resources and business plan objectives and foster a culture of innovation and professional development. The Associate Dean ensures the school is responsive to the needs of the province, industry, staff and students.
  • High autonomy and freedom of action within the school’s limits are required. This position develops strategies to meet the current and future needs of polytechnic education and applied research in Alberta.
  • The work involves an understanding of a broad range of issues including a sound knowledge of human resources, educational and business practices. Interpretation, analysis and decision making is constantly required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Other combinations of formal education may be a consideration/requirement, dependent on which School position is assigned to.
  • Minimum 5 years related leadership experience.
    Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
    Remuneration: $126,534.72 - $167,639.94 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. Will be commensurate with education and experience.

Responsibilities:

Academic Leadership:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to program leaders and educational delivery teams.
  • Oversee curriculum and pathways development, program reviews, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Foster a culture of teaching excellence and innovation.
  • Champion academic needs with institutional support areas.

Student Success:

  • Champion student-centered approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Support student recruitment and oversee retention, and progression initiatives.
  • Ensure effective and accessible support services are available for students.

Academic Operations:

  • Oversee enrolment management, budget planning, and financial management.
  • Ensure effective use of resources and infrastructure.
  • Support human resources management and staff development.

External Engagement:

  • Foster partnerships with industry, government, and community organizations.
  • Ensure programs meet the current and future needs of industry.
  • Promote experiential learning and applied research.

Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance:

  • Contribute to the development of the school’s strategic plan.
  • Oversee quality assurance processes and accreditation.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
