Description:
The Opportunity
Keyano College is actively seeking an Associate Dean to fill newly established role within the School of Trades and Technology.
The Associate Dean plays a key operational and leadership role within the School and collaborates closely with the Dean to ensure the effective functioning of the department. The position involves a combination of administrative, supervisory, academic, and strategic responsibilities aimed at advancing the School’s mission, goals, and overall success. The Associate Dean also liaises with various departments at the college (including the Office of the Registrar, Public Engagement, and Research, Learning & Innovation). The Associate Dean position is responsible and accountable for the expansion of programming, curriculum quality, professional program delivery, and efficient operation and sustainability.
Note: this is not a remote or hybrid work opportunity, you will be required to work on campus and relocate to Fort McMurray, AB.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day administrative operations within the School, including time-off approvals and faculty performance reviews.
- Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure efficient processes related to scheduling, student services, and departmental communications.
- Manage budgets and resources effectively by working closely with the Dean and other stakeholders.
- Participate in Capital spending, execution, and reporting, in collaboration with the Dean.
- Manage the grant process, including securing new grants and overseeing grant reporting, in consultation with the Dean.
- Support initiatives that enhance student engagement, retention, and overall satisfaction.
- Address student concerns and work with faculty and staff to create a positive learning environment.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the School’s strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with the Dean in aligning School goals with the broader institutional strategic objectives.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, including industry partners, community organizations, and alumni.
- Lead the establishment of program advisory committees for the department and liaise with the committee to facilitate relationships with employer groups, community organizations, and professional associations.
- Lead program development in Trades & Technology, in consultation with the Dean.
Qualifications
- An undergraduate degree in Trades & Technology and/or combination of relevant experience and education.
- Trade certification in a relevant field.
- Experience in academic leadership roles, preferably at the departmental level.
- Demonstrated success in academic program development and assessment.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in academic environments.
- Or a combination of education, experience, and training acceptable to the college.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills - Proven success in team building and collaboration through the use of excellent interpersonal skills; ability to develop and foster an atmosphere of trust, support, creativity, and innovation; excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentations.
Planning & Analytical Skills – Superior ability to plan, analyze, and manage projects, budgets, and day-to-day operations; proposal and report writing, ability to set appropriate metrics and provide reports on these metrics.
Financial Management – Experience in budget planning and monitoring; demonstrated ability to stay within budgetary limits established.
Personal Credibility – Trusted and respected by others, protects confidential information, and is accountable for his/her actions and decisions; proven ability to serve as a role model for others when solving problems and dilemmas or confronting unethical actions.
Performance Management – Understands and has experience with performance planning, coaching and review process, as well as the performance improvement process.
Adult Education – Knowledge and experience in adult learning principles, teaching methodology, and curriculum.
Workforce and Community Development – Have knowledge of workforce trends and community needs in regard to education and training.
Technical Proficiency – Strong MS Office application skills. Have the ability to adopt a systematic approach toward identifying and solving technical problems. Learning Management Systems, Virtual Livestream Platforms, FMW (budget management software), PowerCampus (Student Information Systems) as well as Mobius (government data reporting system) experience is an asset.
