JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Associate Director, ALM Investment Strategy & Initiatives, will support key asset-liability management (ALM) projects and initiatives in the Sun Life International business. This will include developing investment and hedging strategies, providing ALM advice/input on product development and pricing initiatives, optimizing the risk/return profiles of the investment portfolios, and enhancing the team’s asset portfolio monitoring and analytics.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Knowledge of life insurance products, including an understanding of the key financial risks in these products and their financial profiles.
  • Knowledge of investments (including derivatives), capital markets, and accounting would be an advantage.
  • Desire to learn and to solve complex problems. Detail-oriented, well-organized, and have a mindset of looking for improvements.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • FSA and/or FCIA and possess a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in ALM or actuarial roles.
    The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the hedging and investment strategies for new and existing products, reflecting the financial risks within the products, Sun Life’s risk appetite, client pass-through considerations, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Pricing team on product development and pricing initiatives, which includes providing ALM advice, developing asset assumptions, creating/maintaining asset models, and assessing financial/investment risks.
  • Collaborate with the Portfolio Management team to optimize the risk/return profiles of the investment portfolios; supporting competitive pricing/crediting consistent with the business’ risk appetite.
  • Support assumption changes (ACMA): including recommending changes to the asset/ALM assumptions and supporting the business in understanding the financial implications of model refinements and valuation assumption changes.
  • Build up the team’s ALM capabilities in the areas of hedging, portfolio analytics, and risk management.
