Job Summary
The Associate Director of Marketing and Communications is an integral part of the Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation marketing team. This role manages the center’s brand voice across all materials and mediums and plays a crucial part in executing marketing strategies for externally-facing programs and events. This position involves developing and managing marketing content across a variety of mediums to amplify the impact and influence of center programs, research, and events among internal, Booth, university, prospective student, and social sector audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a content calendar and oversees execution of content marketing strategy to drive awareness for the Rustandy Center’s research, events, programs, and other news.
  • Works closely with Director of Marketing, Communications and Brand to ensure a unified voice and look across all materials and mediums to build Booth’s reputation as a leading business school in social impact.
  • Serves as a content-creator, content-manager, and marketing manager generally to amplify the center’s research, events, and program efforts. This includes partnering closely with the center teams guiding content strategy, crafting stories, and writing social media posts and brand-driven emails, like the Rustandy Monthly newsletter.
  • Writes, edits, and proofreads content for the Center’s marketing materials, including website, blogs, emails, online ads, social media, and printed marketing collateral. Edits and proofreads Rustandy Center-related marketing materials produced in-house, with vendors, and/or with University partners.
  • Oversees leadership communications. Drafts and edits talking points, speeches, and presentations for Rustandy Center staff, with a particular focus on external events for leadership. Helps prepare leadership for media engagements. Oversees and manages advancement-related communications, including gift announcements, stewardship reports, year-in-review, and donor emails.
  • Implements and manages comprehensive marketing strategies, advertising, and processes for major donor-funded, externally-facing programs and events, including email, social media, and other channels. Oversees additional campaigns as assigned.
  • Supports Assistant Director, Event and Program Marketing as needed to maintain and update the Rustandy Center website, ensuring all site content is current, accurate, and optimized for user engagement.
  • Develops strong working relationships with marketing peers at other research and learning centers, Booth marketing, Booth advancement, the Office of Civic Engagement and University Alumni Relations and Development. Develops new relationships with external partners who may further amplify Rustandy Center content.
  • Updates brand voice and maintenance of the Rustandy Center blog.
  • Keeps up-to-date with the latest in global marketing trends.
  • Manages and assigns freelance contract work as needed.
  • Develops one or more of the following marketing functions: marketing communications and advertising, web blogs or other digital marketing, and market research. Reviews and updates marketing infrastructure which may include one or more database systems, the intranet, and external web sites.
  • Develops marketing communications, advertising, or publicity strategy. Plans and coordinates the development and production of marketing campaigns, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met. Designs, writes, and edits high profile or high visibility marketing materials, which may include press releases, book jacket copy, blogs, or other Web material.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, marketing, business, communications, or related area.
  • Master’s degree in marketing, communications, or journalism.

Experience:

  • A minimum three years of marketing/communications experience.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Experience with Sprinklr, Marketo, and Sitecore.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Airtable, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite Photoshop experience.

Preferred Competencies

  • Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, as well as organizational skills.
  • Copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of email and content marketing tactics.
  • General knowledge of website best practices, search engine optimization, and social media tactics.
  • Previous experience with diverse and geographically dispersed collaborators.
  • Work independently with little supervision; possess a self-motivated disposition; identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective changes, all while achieving key objectives resulting in desired outcomes.
  • Excellent strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical, creative problem solving, and persuasion skills.
  • Handle multiple detailed tasks/projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty and corporate contacts in a multitude of communication methods i.e., in person, email, phone.
  • Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and a customer service-oriented approach.

Working Conditions

  • This position is currently expected to work a minimum three days per week in the office.
  • Take calls in the evening or early morning.
