Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Fitness and Healthy Living, the Associate Director of Health & Wellness is responsible for hiring, scheduling, training, and supervision of all Fitness Floor Staff and Personal Trainers. The Associate Director evaluates the quality of programs and services in the Fitness Department, using data-based information to inform departmental changes. They assist the Director in creating and monitoring the annual budget and managing payroll expenses for Floor Staff and Personal Trainers. The Associate Health & Wellness Director is expected to stay up to date on fitness trends and take an active role in managing the technological aspects of the Fitness Department, as it relates to Group Exercise, Personal Training and Ignite Group Training programs. They will oversee the maintenance of fitness floor equipment and inventory control of department supplies. As a member of the Y management team, the incumbent actively participates as needed in a variety of cross-departmental projects and initiatives that advance the Y mission and strategic plan goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a current group exercise certification from one of the following groups: American Council on Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA), Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of practical experience in health and wellness preferred.
  • Enjoy, be skilled at and understand the importance of building relationships with people: members, staff, volunteers, donors, and community leaders.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Proficient in windows-based programs i.e. Word, Excel and Publisher.
  • Able to receive and maintain CPR, first aid, AED certifications.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Hire, schedule, train, supervise and evaluate Personal Trainers and Fitness Floor Staff.
  • Assist the Director of Fitness and Healthy Living to develop, introduce and maintain innovative fitness and wellness programs to meet emerging and evolving interests and needs of members (e.g., training programs for athletes, injury and illness recovery programs, wellness programs for sustained fitness, virtual fitness programing etc.).
  • In the absence of the Group Exercise Coordinator, supervise the Group Exercise Instructors and manage their schedule.
  • Maintain current knowledge in fitness trends, innovations, programs and ideas.
  • Increase member participation, satisfaction and retention by ensuring outstanding wellness experiences delivering excellent new member on-boarding.
  • Administer and manage the YMCA branch app, responding to member comments, creating and promoting member challenges, and troubleshooting problems.
  • Assist Director of Director of Fitness & Healthy Living in management and execution of all Chronic Disease and Ignite programing.
  • Assist in planning, coordination, and implementation of special health and fitness events.
  • Submit payroll for all Personal Trainers and Floor Staff.
  • Be enthusiastic and committed staff development, ensuring professionalism and customer service through leading by example.
  • Assist Director of Fitness & Healthy Living in developing, monitoring and executing monthly and annual budgets for Floor Staff, Personal Training, Group Exercise and Ignite Group Training.
  • Provide Personal Training as needed, not to exceed 5 hours per week.
  • Learn and be fluent in the operation of Group Ex Pro and Y Wellness 24/7
  • Log and report any floor equipment maintenance concerns to the appropriate tech provider for repair as well as Director of Fitness and Healthy Living. Follow up to ensure the task is completed.
  • Monitor, record and file Floor Staff and Personal Trainer certifications & expiration dates as well as maintaining accurate CPR/AED certification log for trainer and floor staff.
  • Develop and introduce new and innovative programming to meet the needs of our members.
  • Effectively perform all administrative responsibilities, payroll, staff reviews, class schedules and staff meetings with staff.
  • Assist with Paths to Wellness programs, including teaching classes and promotion as required.
  • Attend all staff meetings.

  • Work with the Development Team, HR and key philanthropy volunteers to increase your understanding and skill set.
  • Build strategic relationships with members for year-round member cultivation to increase the number of member campaign volunteers and donors.
  • Assist in achieving your department annual support campaign goal by directly and personally participating in campaign efforts and ongoing fundraising by identifying new volunteers and potential new donors
