OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Director of Major Gifts will report direc tly to the Director of Development. This position will be responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting significant gift s in supportof the school’s educational needs and priorities. To assistthe school and its leadership in expanding its philanthropic base of al umni, parents, and friends through leadership annual fund gifts and majo r gift fundraising.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree required. Masters or other advanced degree preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

< p>

  • Candidate musthave five or more years of progressive responsibility in development or fund raising, with a proven track record of success in raising individual gifts i n the range of$100,000 to $1 million.
  • Significant experience staffing majo r gift and board volunteers.

  • Strong collaborative abilities and enth usiasm for working in teams.

< /span>

  • Excellent oral and written communicatio n skills.

< li>High levelof creativity, initiative, and motivation.

  • Abili ty to travel frequently.
  • Proven ability to work independently span>

EDUCATION

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’sdegree program.

EXPERIENCE

Work requires five years of progressive fund raising experience in a OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE related organization with a proven track record in major gifts. Campaign experience is desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Director of Development in creating and implementing a comprehensive development plan for major gift fundr aising that includes but is not limited to identification and quali fication of newly screened major gift prospects; as well as the cul tivation and solicitation of both existing and newly identified pro spects at the $100,000 to $5M+ level.

  • Solicit annual fund leadership gifts of $1 ,000+ from engineering alumni and current engineering parents. Work closely with the Annual Fund team to increase giving levels of exi sting leadership donors.

  • Involve Engineering administrators, facul ty and volunteers in fund raising efforts; keep abreast of institut ional and departmental priorities, University programs, personaliti es and events.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Duke-wide funding priorities, and a general knowledge of those schools, departments, and institutes t hat collaborate directly with Engineering.
  • Actively communicate and collabor ate with development officers throughout the University to inform o f travel and to visit potential prospects, to coordinate regional p rospect strategies and activities andto make and take referrals. < /span>
  • Represent the school within the broader campus development community by coordinat ing cultivation and solicitation strategies for prospects with mult iple interests; and by contributing to the refinement of policies a nd practices that will enhance the University’s advancement goals.< /span>
  • Maintain a balanced portfolio of 150 qualified major giftprospects for engineeri ng through work in 4 key regions including San Francisco
  • Support the Pratt D evelopment team as needed to advance the Engineering School’s priorities
