Description:

Reporting to the President, the Associate Director, Planning and Implementation is expected to function with an extremely high degree of autonomy.
The position develops and maintains a broad network of strategic and business relationships to coordinate, monitor, and communicate project objectives and progress, and promote successful delivery of the key priorities and goals of the University. The position oversees and reports on initiatives across the University.
The Associate Director, Planning and Implementation requires excellent problem solving, communication and change-management skills with the ability to exercise a high degree of judgment in situations of significant uncertainty, such as restructuring, business transformation, emergent response and recovery, and shifting roles and responsibilities.

Job Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in business, public administration or a related field plus seven years of relevant experience, preferably in a senior office in an educational institution
  • Excellent knowledge of University policies, procedures, protocols and governance
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in all circumstances
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to build and maintain cooperative and productive relationships and effectively liaise with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to organize, manage, and lead diverse complex projects simultaneously while following accepted project management techniques, and manage project-related service contracts to achieve goals
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to manage effectively, provide strategic direction, and manage high profile priorities, while working with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to develop, explain, and present high level policy, practices, and strategic plans both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise style that is appropriate to the audience
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to independently research, analyze, interpret and to respond appropriately in complex and sensitive situations
  • Ability to defuse complaints, investigate sensitive issues, and resolve conflicts
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the complexities involved in the coordinating across multiple portfolios, and competing priorities
  • Demonstrated success in coordinating diverse activities in an executive-level context
  • Ability to approach routine activities, management functions and projects with a clear sense of discipline, focus and analytical thinking
  • Capacity to think strategically, within a general frame of reference, assessing priorities and operational requirements in light of the university’s goals and initiatives
  • As an ambassador of Royal Roads University, and representative of the Office of the President, demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with government officials, international visitors, and other senior leaders
  • Demonstrated appreciation for the management of strategic risk and specifically, places value on the importance of tact and discretion in the work place particularly related to responsibilities in support of the goals and objectives of the Office of the President and executive team

Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Several years’ experience leading, coaching, mentoring and supervising teams
  • Several years’ experience in senior management contexts: establishing and advancing project objectives, priorities and budgets; and; dealing with politically sensitive and provincially significant issues
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and delivery of cross-portfolio actions
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing a project management approach to institution-wide initiatives

Additional Information
This is a temporary, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week a one year term. This position has a salary range of $105,292 (minimum) to $123,872 (midpoint) to $142,453 (maximum) per annum. Offers will normally be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
