Description:

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Associate Director, Research Grants Programs will work closely with and report directly to the Deputy Director of the Brown Cancer Center (BCC). The position will direct the Basic and Clinical Research Grants Program at the BCC, will be responsible for supervising and overseeing all staff in the Research Grants Program and will work in parallel with the BCC’s Business Office to oversee and implement all Cancer Center’s grants portfolio. This position will provide direction, management, and support as needed for Research Grants, including announcements, strategic planning, pre-award budgets, pre-award liaisons with federal and state granting agencies, grants submission, and post-award administration and budget implementation of all grants managed by the BCC. This individual will be responsible for supporting more than 45 investigators across 11 different departments at the University and will manage a very large research grant portfolio consisting of more than 45-50 awards at any given time. In addition to this key role, the position will assist in the preparation, submission and management of all multi-PI or large complex grant mechanisms. This may include the submission of Center grants (CCSG), SPORE grants, large complex U grants, etc. as deemed appropriate and necessary. The position will be responsible for maintaining the grants database and our electronic storage of grants (SAFE). The individual will be responsible for providing analysis for grant submission and approval for all faculty members associated with the Cancer Center. The position will work closely with other areas of grant management at the University of Louisville, such as the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration (OSPA) and the Office of Sponsored Programs Financial Administration (SPFA), to make a well-rounded and educated executive team. The position will also be instrumental in developing and establishing best practices and training of new and existing personnel as new grant related topics arise. The position will provide pre-award and post-award management as required to assist administrative staff, faculty and senior University leadership members with the management of grants and their grant portfolios. The position will also maintain a working knowledge of University databases to accurately analyze and report on grant related activities and be able to train BCC’s Business Office members in new grant submission processes and software.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with BCC and University leadership for strategic planning for the Center by preparing reports and providing projections and analysis as requested.
- Provide operational, supervisorial and strategic oversight for the BCC Research Office, including the overall supervision of personnel within the office.
- Establish best practices for Research Grant pre-award and post-award processes and implement them.
- Evaluate proposed changes to federal Uniform Guidance and determine what changes are necessary to current BCC Research Office and BCC Business Office practices and procedures. Implement these changes and train BCC faculty/staff on these changes.
- Implement the University’s new electronic research system, Cayuse, and determine what changes are necessary to current BCC Research Office and BCC Business Office practices and procedures. Train all BCC basic, translational and clinical faculty, BCC Research Office and BCC Business Office staff on the Cayuse system.
- Oversee and maintain Database and back-up documentation for all grant proposals submitted through the BCC Research Office and for all grant awards managed by the BCC Research Office.
- Will utilize current electronic filling systems (SAFE and R: drive) to store all documents.
- Serve as a resource leader position for all grant submissions by attending professional development courses and maintaining Certified Research Administrator (CRA) status.
- Notify BCC Faculty of upcoming changes to sponsor grant submission processes and internal policies and procedures. Provide Training Sessions to faculty and BCC Research Office staff regarding proposal submissions, pre-award information and federal processes.
- Work closely with BCC Business Office to provide training on the post-award administration of grants, including allowability/allocability of costs, closeout requirements, etc.
- Represent the interests of the BCC by serving as the liaison director with the Office of Research & Innovation (ORI) by participating in ORI-led committees and workgroups, such as the Campus Research Administrators and the Cayuse Implementation workgroups.
- Establish and maintain database of NIH and DoD Other Support documents for all BCC-managed faculty, updating on at least a quarterly basis.
- Transfer in all research grants for new faculty recruits by coordinating with the previous institution, OSPA, and the Sponsor.
