POSITION SUMMARY

Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented GEAR UP Program Manager to lead the implementation of our GEAR UP initiatives, ensure compliance, and foster strong partnerships with educational institutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Program Implementation: Drive the success of GEAR UP activities as outlined in our approved grant and work closely with school districts and community colleges to bring these initiatives to life.
  • Resource Management & Partner Oversight: Manage program resources efficiently, oversee partner relationships, and serve as the primary liaison between community colleges, school districts, and WSSU.
  • Ensure Compliance: Maintain adherence to federal guidelines by referring to EDGAR, OMB Circulars A-21 and A-110, and other relevant legislation. Ensure all program expenditures are appropriately documented and compliant.
  • Develop & Facilitate Training: Coordinate annual training sessions on compliance and program implementation, empowering educational partners to achieve their goals.
  • Policy & Procedure Management: Regularly update the policy and procedure manual to reflect best practices and regulatory changes, ensuring the program operates smoothly and effectively.
  • Professional Development Initiatives: Lead the development and execution of WSSU GEAR UP-sponsored professional development programs that enhance the skills and knowledge of our partners.

Position Information

DEPARTMENT REQUIRED SKILLS

A Master’s Degree in Education or related field and three years of experience in a leadership role. Working knowledge of federal grants or federal funds within the K-12 or postsecondary education learning environments. Superior organizational, communication, interpersonal, and writing skills with an overall track record of professional experiences inclusive of fiscal management, evaluation, strategic planning, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

PREFERRED YEARS EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, TRAINING, EDUCATION

Experience with college access program development
Demonstrated knowledge of North Carolina’s colleges and universities, admissions requirements, and financial aid
