BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Prospecting, origination, structuring, execution and asset management of structured finance (project finance, corporate finance, sustainable finance and advisory) solutions across the Energy (including power), Energy Transition and Sustainability verticals.
  • Supporting CB Europe and other product teams across European Capital Markets to build out capability and credentials in the above mentioned areas, with an opportunity to generate a higher proportion of fee based revenue via targeted coordinator and structuring roles across bank and bond mandates.
  • Maintaining dialogue with and representing the bank to the market, contributing to the development of a strong and respected market profile of the bank in the verticals outlined.
  • Research and preparation of client pitch materials and thought leadership pieces.
  • Market analysis: target client and industry verticals and comparable transactions analysis, specific bank/debt investor behaviour and wider market volume analysis / trends. Assist the team with preparation of regular market update slides, for internal and external distribution, including analysis of market volumes and commentary / views on trends and activity and collation/maintenance of CIBC credentials.
  • Remain up-to-date on key market themes.
  • Coordinating activities and relationships with equivalent CIBC teams, other business areas and key stakeholders across the firm.

  • Ensure connectivity with and coverage of these markets including via
  • regular calling programs with market participants
  • marketing events and meetings
  • thorough call notes, contributing to the development of a strong and respected market profile of the bank.
  • Assisting on all governance and reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of opinion / materials required for internal committees.
  • Support other senior members of the Corporate Banking team from time to time and develop a strong internal network and relationships across geographies and a personal profile within the firm.
  • Ensure that recommendations and opinions offered to clients are in compliance with legislation and regulation, and are of the highest professional standards and that they reflect the judgment of the firm.
  • Work effectively within CIBC’s corporate governance practices and policies (e.g,. Risk Management, Finance, Human Resources, Legal and Compliance) to ensure all potential risks are appropriately addressed and that CIBC legal / reputational issues and shareholder objectives are covered.

  • Understand existing and potential clients’ needs sufficient to provide advice of appropriate credit structures given the state of credit markets and the credit quality assessment of the client. Well developed knowledge of corporate credit. Excellent understanding of financial statements and accounting principles.
  • Ability to manage internal relationships within CIBC Capital Markets and CIBC as they relate to the credit product, coordinating and ensuring the support of the firm’s internal resources where different priorities may exist.
  • Proven ability to make professional, judgments and provide assessments and opinions with respect to credit structures and transactions.
  • Demonstrates ability to create and maintain good relationships with clients at senior levels.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of credit capital markets, investment banking, private/public debt and equity capital markets, trade finance, foreign exchange, commercial paper, securitization and financial products.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office software, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

The Associate will be responsible for supporting the team with the prospecting, origination, structuring, execution and asset management of structured finance (project finance, corporate finance, sustainable finance) solutions across the Energy (including power), Energy Transition and Sustainability verticals; researching and preparing pitch materials; market analysis and reporting/governance in line with key accountabilities, knowledge and skills outlined below. Consideration of overall Corporate Banking goals.
