The Team and Job Summary
We are seeking an Associate General Counsel to join our Legal team in Colombia. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial, highly driven person with a well-rounded skill set and who has the ability to be a broad generalist supporting the operations of our U.S. Legal team as well as our regional offices in Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Chile and globally. We seek a strong utility player who will take on tasks willingly, demonstrate initiative, and suggest new approaches and/or process improvements. A significant element of this role will be working on and clearing conflicts of interest across various client assignments and performing contract review and management.
The ideal person for this role will need to not only have a strong grasp of general legal principles, contract terms and management, and conflict principals but also be a flexible and a strategic thinker, able to take on a variety of legal and compliance tasks.
The ideal candidate possesses a broad understanding of the legal field (i.e. corporate generalist) and compliance topics. You are a great fit for our team if you are curious, proactive, and dynamic as you will play a vital role within our legal team.
You will be working with our U.S. based Legal and Compliance teams, regional LatAm Leads and related stakeholders. This role has room for development as we continue to mature, expand, and improve our in-house legal capabilities to keep pace with our growth. This individual will work in our Medellin or Bogota, Colombia office with a possibility for a hybrid work schedule and location.
Job Responsibilities
- First line of defense performing and resolving legal and business conflicts within the organization (50% of time).
- Translate, review, and administer letters of engagement, corporate contracts, agreements and related materials.
- Work with key internal stakeholders to draft, translate, review, administer, update, and address privacy, compliance, and ethics matters.
- File management and document tracking administration.
- Ensure regional corporate compliance and initiatives keep pace with our growth and developments in the law, regulations, and corporate policy in LATAM.
- Collaborate on special projects and respond to ad hoc requests as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of Legal experience in house or as a corporate generalist at a professional services or legal firm.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present to and interact with stakeholders of varying levels.
- High level of proficiency speaking and writing in English at least a C1 level.
- Experience working in a large, global law or related professional services firm with the ability to effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to take initiative, pivot quickly and balance legal issues with business risk.
- Sense of urgency and confidentiality.
