Description:

ECC is seeking candidates for an Associate Geologist with experience overseeing soil boring and well drilling/installation operations. The position is near Tacoma, WA on our job site (Joint Base Lewis-McChord). ECC is open to candidates who are willing to relocate to this area (relocation stiped available). This office and field position is primarily responsible for helping plan, select, coordinate and implement scientific and environmental services to fully address the scope of work on environmental remediation and hazardous waste management projects in accordance with Company standards, regulatory criteria, and contractual obligations. In this position you will:

  • Consult and collaborate work with Project Manager, Superintendent, as well as Health and Safety, Quality Control, Project Controls, Estimating, and Contracts representatives to properly plan, coordinate and ensure progress of tasks, activities, and deliverables per the approved budget and schedule
  • Select and apply appropriate environmental technologies and cost-effective solutions to remediate or remove contaminants and meet project objectives
  • Plan, prepare, review, and issue project and field submittals within approved budget including but not including but not limited to pre-construction plans, design documents, testing plans, analytical reports, shop drawings, field submittals, operation & maintenance reports, closure reports and as-built records
  • Apply industry standards of practice for selected technology, adhering to regulatory codes and standards, national/ local standards, and company SOPs
  • Identify, address and communicate technical, operational and business risks relevant to the selected project approach and technology to the Project Manager
  • Author RFQs and assist in procurement and selection of technical and specialty subcontractors, consultants and service providers to accomplish scope of work
  • As directed, report to the field to perform and/or inspect or observe fieldwork, and review work of personnel, subcontractors and consultants to ensure compliance with approved plans and acceptable tolerances
  • Ensure that appropriate and required testing is completed by qualified personnel using properly calibrated equipment
  • Evaluate, review, monitor and document results and help make necessary decisions/ adjustments to procedures
  • Complete related documentation (field reports, logs, meeting minutes, online submittal sites), in a timely and accurate manner
  • Investigate and recommend solutions in response to field changes, RFIs, and resolve fieldwork or construction issues related to quality, technology, installed equipment, and operation
  • In addition to the accountabilities above, other responsibilities, tasks, and deliverables may be assigned to the incumbent of this position

Requirements

  • The ability to communicate in written or verbal formats with diplomacy and tact
  • An aptitude for exercising independent thinking and reasoning
  • Strong organizational skills, and skilled at leading dispersed teams to accomplish tasks and activities adhering to established budget and schedule
  • Skilled in achieving project objectives by properly reviewing/ inspecting work for adherence to approved technical plans, drawings and specifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge applying scientific standards of practice and regulatory codes and standards to environmental and field techniques
  • Proven knowledge in reading and comprehending client requirements, technical plans, specifications, and related technical documentation
  • Successful track record in effectively engaging with subcontractors
  • Ability to mentor and guide team members and share lessons learned
  • Dedicated to remaining abreast of technological developments and industry trends
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office products, email systems, and Windows
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience overseeing soil boring and well drilling/installation operations (using a variety of drill techniques such as roto-sonic), working in complex geological environments, performing in-situ or ex-situ environmental systems design, scientific analysis, field engineering support, or quality control on environmental remediation or hazardous waste management projects.
  • Travel: Must be able and willing to travel periodically, typically less than 50% depending on the needs of the company.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement.

ECC targeted base salary range for the Tacoma, WA area is $80,000 to $90,000 annually.
Actual salary offered may be affected by education, training, certifications, experience, skills, level of responsibility, and location.
