Job Description and Duties
The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) is recruiting for one Permanent, Full-Time Associate Government Program Analyst within its Legal Division. This position will be based in the Sacramento office with remote work options available. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of these positions within the next 180 days.
DFPI is a California state agency that protects California consumers, small businesses, and investors, and administers multiple state licensing laws related to financial services. Industries that the DFPI regulates include mortgage and student loan servicers, state-licensed lenders, investment advisors, and debt collectors. The DFPI often considers legal and policy issues presented by emerging financial technologies, and develops strategies that protect consumers and investors while encouraging financial innovation that benefits all Californians. The Legal Division drafts regulations, legal opinions, and legislative analysis, and coordinates the DFPI’s responses to subpoenas and Public Records Act (PRA) requests.
Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager 1 (SSM1) of the Legal Division, the Associate Governmental Program Analyst assists legal staff in timely responding to PRA requests and subpoenas, agency rule making, business correspondence, drafting and proofreading legal and policy documents, and organizing meetings and conferences. PRA responsibilities may include coordinating with DFPI staff to obtain responsive documents, identifying applicable exemptions from disclosure, applying appropriate redactions, drafting acknowledgment and response letters to requestors, and disclosing documents to requestors. Agency rulemakling responsibilities may including preparing documents for submission to the Office of Administrative Law, conducting research to support the DFPI’s economic impact determinations relating to regulations, organizing and summarizing rulemaking comments, drafting regulations, and ensuring that rulemaking documents are posted to the DFPI’s public website.
