Description:
SKILLS:
- Gas chromatography
- coupled gas chromatography-mass spectrometry
- coupled gas chromatography-electroantennogram detection
- Operating or maintaining laboratory or field equipment
- Identification and counting of trapped/collected insects
- Prepare solution, reagents, chemical standards for use in the laboratory, field
- Field trials/trapping bioassays using semiochemicals
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least one year experience collecting and evaluating volatile samples related to insects; developing or designing various aspects of research projects related to insect chemical ecology; and tabulating, statistically analyzing, or summarizing data.
- Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s; a master’s degree; or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Entomology, Plant Sciences, Botany, Plant Physiology, Agricultural Sciences, or Chemistry
Responsibilities:
Conduct trials to assess new lures for their role in Northern giant hornet trapping. Work in collaboration with USDA and WSDA scientists to test lures and develop new chemical formulations for improved monitoring of Northern giant hornet. Travel required, both domestic and international, to work on Northern giant hornet field trials.
