Description:

Global Counsel is seeking an Associate to join its Investor Services practice. The Investor Services practice advises global institutional investors including private equity, venture capital, pension funds, hedge funds and family offices. We help investment decision-makers to anticipate and mitigate the impacts of politics, policy and regulation on assets and investment portfolios. This includes political due diligence on transactions. Focusing on our specialist niche of government and regulatory affairs, we draw on an extensive network and more than a decade in the market to provide investors across the globe with timely, accurate and actionable insights.
The role is well-suited to an individual with 1-4 years of experience in politics, government / civil service, management consulting / strategy consulting, journalism or financial services. At Associate level, strong commercial, political, policy and regulatory acumen is more important than extensive prior experience with institutional investors.
The role is London-based, but the team works on projects around the world so experience in non-UK markets or governments is welcome.

Role, responsibilities, & skills

  • Work alongside colleagues as part of a high-performing team to deliver high quality insights for investor clients
  • Undertake complex political, policy and regulatory research as part of political due diligence projects
  • Conduct interviews with political, policy and regulatory stakeholders
  • Interpret and analyse research findings to develop the commercial implications for the client
  • Present to senior-level clients
  • Support colleagues on business development opportunities, including drafting proposals and other support material
  • Support other practices in their work from time to time
  • Over time, build and maintain a network of businesses and policymakers
  • Act as an active ambassador for Global Counsel at relevant industry and policy events
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to make inferences and draw conclusions about how politics and regulations affect businesses
  • Strong organisation and communications skills
  • Rigorous and entrepreneurial research skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills in English.
  • A motivated self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-awareness and a strong commitment to professional and personal development
  • Committed to collegiate working with colleagues across other practices and offices.
