POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an associate lawyer with 2-5 years of experience in commercial litigation, insolvency & restructuring, creditors rights and/or construction litigation. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside established practitioners in a growing litigation practice, who are committed to hiring and developing the best and brightest legal and business professionals.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Able to manage a diverse caseload, with a focus on corporate/commercial litigation, insolvency, restructuring, creditors’ rights, and construction litigation.
  • Able to conduct thorough legal research, and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court documents.
  • Participate in applications, questionings, hearings, and trials, providing strategic support and representation.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop case strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all court requirements and deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly grasp supporting software tools, and standardized process. (HGA Law is a technology-forward firm and aims to continuously evolve its technological tools and firm process).

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A member in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta; eligible to practice as a lawyer in Alberta.
  • Called to the bar in 2022 or earlier.

Responsibilities:

  • Leverages client intelligence from other members of the HGA Group to provide strategic legal advice and recommendations, and proactively identifies issues.
  • Detail-oriented and always focused on quality control.
  • Approaches issues with business sense and provides pragmatic solutions.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Is always focused on competent and ethical practice.
  • Balances billable file work with firm and professional development and is always focused on delivering positive value for fees.
