Description:
REF NO
2047
Do you have a passion for teaching biology? Are you motivated by the functioning of cardiovascular, respiratory or renal systems? Or the key principles across the molecular, cellular, tissue/organ and organismal levels of organisation?
If so, Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Associate Lecturer to join the School of Natural Sciences next 2025.
As Associate Lecturer you will teach the module:
- Aspects of Human Physiology, (AHP) Level 5
- 60 hours
- Wednesdays (13.00 – 16.00 & 18.00 – 21.00)
AHP is taught over 10 weeks in the Spring Term (Jan-Mar 2025) and you will deliver two instances weekly: one in the afternoon and one in the evening, both on Wednesdays.
The work will require 60 contact hours of teaching, plus 6 hours of test invigilation (in April) as well as organisation, communication with students, student support, and assessment marking.
The module syllabus has been designed and the teaching materials already exist although you will have some freedom to refine these and also to contribute to the design of the assessments, subject to the specifications in place.
As Associate Lecturer, you will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching within the biological sciences and to providing support to students that fosters academic growth.
You will also have a PhD in biological sciences, or a related discipline; a sound knowledge of basic human physiology; and excellent communication and presentation skills. You will have experience of classroom teaching at undergraduate level, ideally at Level 5 and/or 6; proven ability to deliver material effectively in a classroom setting is essential.
Experience of and/or willingness to develop skill in providing learning materials via a virtual learning environment (such as Moodle) is also required. As is evidence of having supported students from a range of backgrounds to achieve their potential is highly desirable.
