JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree or diploma in any discipline.
  • 2-3 years of experience in acquisitions, cataloguing/ metadata services, and electronic resource management preferably in an academic library setting.
  • Proficient with library management systems, finance systems, electronic resource management systems and discovery interfaces, authentication tools would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with web publishing tools such as LibGuides and WordPress.
  • Good analytical, organisational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly service-oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate effectively with internal and external teams.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Executive will be part of a lean team, working collaboratively to deliver timely access to information resources and services that support the learning, teaching, and research activities of the SUSS community.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

The Executive is a resourceful, self-motivated, and service-oriented individual who is responsible for selecting, acquiring and developing the electronic and physical library resources comprising books, serials, audio-visual materials and databases. The role entails overseeing the entire life cycle of the resource, which includes selection, acquisition, promotion, providing access, improving discovery and identifying resources for disposal and replacement. The candidate will also provide curricular and research support and resource-sharing services.

The successful applicant will work in a lean team and is responsible for the following:

  • Develop and deliver acquisitions and fulfilment services for the provision of access to print and electronic resources and other formats.
  • Source, evaluate, select, and curate library resources comprising books, serials, audio-visual materials and databases for acquisition.
  • Collaborate with Schools and other departments to process and manage course readings through the library management system for easy discovery.
  • Collection development and maintenance activities that include disposal and replacement as well as recommend and promote the use of the library resources.
  • Work with publishers, vendors and aggregators, and other stakeholders to configure platform settings and resolve all issues with orders, subscriptions, licenses, invoices, inventory and facilitate access.
  • Carry out acquisitions-related financial and rights administration, including creating, loading, and maintaining vendor, fund, license, and other related information in the library management system. Serve as administrator for content platforms.
  • Analyse, monitor, and report on resources, collections and its usage to ensure better use of the budget allocated for the library resources.
  • Provide research assistance and other onsite and online library services as required.
  • Create and maintain online research guides and other web content for assigned subject areas.
  • Participate in library-wide initiatives and projects.
  • Engage in continuous professional development, and serve the Library and University through representation on internal and external committees, where required.
  • Perform other departmental or organisational accountabilities or duties.
  • Will be required to work some evenings and weekends and perform counter duties.
