QTC’s Advisory Division is focused on supporting financial sustainability and operational excellence across Queensland’s local government sector. The local government team within the Advisory Division supports and assists Councils to:
- deliver their budgets
- improve their service delivery
- identify and mitigate significant business risk
- implement and sustain projects while building internal capability

Responsibilities:
PURPOSE OF ROLE:
QTC are seeking a motivated Associate to join the Local Government – Projects & Advisory team in Brisbane on a permanent basis. You will support the financial sustainability of councils through effect financial and risk advice. The Associate will work as part of a project team to deliver effective advice and insights to individual councils and to the Local Government Division of the Queensland Government Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works.
Responsibilities include:
- Work as part of a team to provide advice on Financial, governance and risk management activities.
- Bring a risk and continuous improvement mindset to advocate and support change.
- Collaborate and innovate with excellence to best manage flow of work and information to create value.
- Bring superior stakeholder engagement skills to champion client centricity – our client’s goals are at the heart of everything we do.
- Supporting the Director and team members on developing strategic projects and delivering key business-as-usual activities.
- Regional travel can be a requirement of this role.
You will bring prior experience from a similar role including:
- Understanding of local government sector issues and challenges
- Ability to synthesis the right data independently and identifies solid insights.
- Knowledge of Financial modelling and/or data modelling.
- Experience in areas such as local government finance or similar, preparing business cases, feasibility studies, optimising businesses is highly regarded.
- Relationship management skills including the proven ability to develop partnerships with clients and internal teams.
- Skills in negotiating and facilitating discussions in a variety of situations.
- Strong report writing, financial analysis and presentation skills.
- Engaging and persuasive communication style
- Critical thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills, including demonstrated ability to effectively diagnose situations and develop creative solutions
